Original owner here of our Grrrr8 cars. I have a Dash Hawk that I use to read and clear codes that the GT pops up from time to time, but it is good only for the G8.
Since I don't DD the G8 anymore, I have been driving my Tacoma and want/need a decent OBD2 reader for it and other vehicles that I have come across that pop codes. I'm tired of going to the local auto store to get the code read. Any good recommendations on a decent reader?
Looking on getting one that reads and cleares not only the regular codes but also the ABS and other codes that the cheap ones don't do. Not looking on a professional grade one. Just something that will last me the rest of my driving/maintenance life. :auto:
Thanks guys.

Kermit, does that dashhawk get paired to your vin? If not, would you loan it out for a few days or so? I need to try a Crank relearn and HPTuners won't do it for some odd reason. Want to try other methods and I read the Dashhawks will do it.
Got nothin for you on the ABS reader - code readers are a dime a dozen (as you know) - but for ABS, that's not something I've researched enough to be able to make a rec.

I did the same. But I am about to pick up another that does ABS before sears goes under, I think mine is a bit older.
Harbor freight also sells some with ABS capability, I think craftsman is cheaper on sale?

Dash hawk does that? I have one as well [2, one is dead] If I can find it you can borrow it. I used it mainly in the saab here or there. I don't recall that feature...odd that HP won't do that.

I appreciate it, Dan. Yeah, I believe DashHawk has that function. HPTuners is able to do it, but for some reason I'm having issues getting it to even try the process. I put a 9.5 ecm in my early 09. The ECM returns a message that vehicle must be in park with engine running as the reason it "can't" run the process, although I've followed the procedure exactly. I can turn the code off, but I'd rather just complete the relearn.
If you can run down yours, let me know. It will take me all of half an hour to see if it'll work or not and I can shoot it back your way. I'll kick some bucks to cover shipping and time.

Will do.
Don't need funds for time etc, shipping is fine.
Pray I find it :)

Thanks all for the input. I have seen the BlueDriver G8eraid but I think I rather have a stand alone reader. Not ruling it out yet but want to look at other options still.
SLT_G8GT - Your more than welcome to use my DashHawk if MiEngieer can't find his. I can't remember if I cleared my Crank relearn using the DashHawk or HPTuners after swaping CAM.

I have an older Innova 3160 that will do ABS codes. They've revised the model a few times in the several years since I bought it. I haven't had the opportunity to try to pull any other types of enhanced codes on the G8, but I used it on a coworker's similar year, maybe a few years newer, Silverado, and pulled a number of enhanced type codes that started with U and other letters.
