Sorry nothing to do with my G8. I have a 2001 Yukon and I have to switch out the 1-4 solenoid in the transmission. Has anyone ever done this and is it easy to do? Is the solenoid internal or external?

There are actually two shift solenoids. One is for 1st & 3rd and the other one is 2nd & 4th......and they are internal so you will have to pull off the pan.

Sorry the truck starts off in 2nd. How can you tell which one to change?

If you call the dealer they can tell you. I just gotta ask this, but did you put a transgo shift kit in it and then started having this problem?

No shift kit, just stock.

You can test them with an ohmmeter.....should read 26-28 ohms....but if it was me I would go ahead and replace both of them....they are not that expensive. When you go to remove them hold pressure on the solenoid when removing the clip because the one on the passenger side is spring loaded with valve and it may pop out, if it does the spring goes in first and then the valve. It is not that hard to do. If you can tell me what code it is I can tell you exactly which one is bad. They are both located in rear of valve body. They are the only two that are square.
