Hey I was looking at some Kooks headers on Maryland speed, it asks if I want them coated.... Is this recommended and is it worth the ~$150??? Thanks!!

my cousin did it in his c6 but from what I heard if its scratched then it flakes off and it a waste of $150. I have the Kooks headers and I didn't do it.

ARH did not recommend coating as its REAL USA stainless.

Md Speed told me its not really needed with the Kooks either because they use also use
real stainless. I believe its 304 stainless. Mine aren't coated.

If you get a true thermal coating done then you can decrease the under-hood temperatures a couple of hundred degrees and most of the time not have any discoloration issues on top of that.

I'm not sure, but since underhood temps are always <200 degrees, I guess that coating would make
:windy::devil:

I had Jet-Hot on my last Z-28 and it looked great! I had it done because the car was put in car shows a lot, not sure if I am going do it on my headers for G8. I think it is mostly for looking pretty.

If going with any other brand header that isn't 304 stainless or USA stainless, I'd say yes get it, my Pacesetters on my TA have it as they aren't stainless, and it's held up great. I'd venture off to say it's not needed with Kooks or ARH though.
