Has anyone had any experience with programming a key from China sellers? I purchased a complete switchblade key with all electronics, uncut key and the transponder chip which I had to physically put in the slot so I know it's there. Had a local place cut the key. I tried the key programming instructions and it says engine immobolized. It will start if I swap keys fast enough but won't stay working? Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Something is wrong with the transponder. Did you buy a new one or cut it out of a old key?

Everything is brand new down to the pontiac logo. key was new uncut, had a local key shop cut it. it cycles the ignition fine and all fob buttons programmed.

I've heard several stories of the Chinese keys not working. I realize they're all made in China, but I buy all mine from GTOG8TA. At least you have someone to talk to if they don't work. Everything I've bought from them work.

any idea if just buying the new transponder chip from GTOG8TA would fix the issue?

Well, you said you put a new transponder in it, but, if the other key works, you don't have a problem with the receiver and the only other thing it can be is the transponder. They're relatively cheap compared to a whole new blank flip. I'd get one and try it.

Hello. i got a flip chip from china and had the dealer cut it today. im getting the same message as you. The description said the flip key has the ID46 chip inside so i assumed it should work. where is this chip located to make sure?

UPDATE, i opened mine up and there was no chip so i ordered one. $20 shipped for the that chip. dang expensive.

mine did have a chip in a seperate bag, i installed it but wont program. like you i ordered one from GTOG8TA after talking to them (I guess this is a common problem, some chips are just bad) for 20 shipped, hopefully that corrects the issue.

I had one that wouldn't program when I lived in an apartment I bought my house and then 5 years later I was bored and I did the long relearn in the garage and it worked . Maybe too many keys stored in system the long relearn takes about a half hour and it had to be done right.

i was wondering about the long relearn, was thinking maybe i had the max number of keys programmed to it (4 according to the owners manual), but was scared of screwing my one good key. might have to try it and if it works just buy another blank since i will have a spare chip. thanks

The new chips are useless without reprogramming them.

If you take out the original transponder chip from your original fob and relocate inside the new flip fob ..This will fix the issue if you have not done that.

The chip is a pain in the ass to take out of the original because the factory sometimes glues them in. Just take your time taking it out and installing it in the new fob. Some people used a dremel tool to carefully get the original chip out.

i purchased a complete new key with new transponder chip because i only have the 1 original straight key so i dont want to pull the chip from my only good key. I want to program the new chip with my new key and fob. I was told these chips often are just bad units and wont program hence the reason i purchased another chip to try and program it.

I understand..didnt realize you only had the straight spare key and not the original fob.

My understanding with these new chips most owners are having issues with them. I know of two that had to go to the dealer and have them do it.

Im in the process of ordering a new fob and converting my old chip and my old key ..I will use the new casing, spring load tension-er and buttons etc.

ya i talked to a guy at GTOG8TA yesterday and he said they are hit or miss, if you get a bad one from them they will swap it out with another to try.. swapping out from flip fob isnt too bad, especially if you have a whole new shell and dont have to worry about ruining the old one... had to do it with my first G8s key
