I have the oil and just need to waste oil catch can and need a filter and filter wrench which Ill get those two things tomorrow at Auto Zone.

http://www.autozone.com/shop-and-garage-tools/oil-filter-wrench/oem-oil-filter-h-cap-style-wrench/344318_0/?_requestid=315276

Since i am doing that I'll rotate the tires again and save some $$ and not get my car fucked up again.

Any suggestions

It's easy. I'm doing mine too this weekend along with the differential fluid and the transmission fluid with a Camaro pan and wide mouth filter. I'm rotating the tires too while I have it in the air. I went to my muffler shop guy and we put it on the rack to see what I needed. I was planning on a full cat back from Solo, but decided on just axlebacks for now. I plan on dod delete, cam, and headers in the future and I just found out Scott Taylor from Street Outlaws New Orleans just bought a dyno and is getting it set up in his shop and is going to start dyno tuning. Looks like I'll have him do my engine work and tune since we live in the same town.

Suggestions: make sure capture pan is big enough to hold 9 quarts before pulling the plug. pick up a new pan plug if you haven't changed it before. Show the ls some love with quality oil and filter. And, above all else don't under-fill new oil.

But yeah, it's super easy.

I have Penzoil Ultra synthetic 10 quarts only need 9 and Ill get a long life filter
The pan is a 16qt so lots of extra space

What kind of filter remover is recommended?

This is the best filter "wrench" for our cars.

You can buy them individually.

If you need a filter wrench somebody overtightened the filter.

I remember when I was managing a Penske Truck Leasing shop I was helping a tech get a filter off and I was using a 6' cheater bar up top as the guy was under neath and it took us 30 minutes to get it off that filter was on so fucking tight

If you are looking for ideas yet..I use this to catch my oil, it is just big enough to hold all of it and low profile. I then have a small 5 gallon steel drum I dump it into until I get to the local landfill.

Just clicked on your first link.. Fancy oil catcher! LOL I use the hog pan probably for no better reason because my dad used something similar.

LAND FILL? You don't take it to be recycles and keep it out of the water table.

Tsk tsk. Seriously places will take it for free.

I use a pan similar to your first post TEXN - mines older design though. But I don't keep or transport the oil in that. I reuse the jugs I buy the oil in - and I keep atleast 2 on hand at all time - empty. I then empty the capture pan into the jugs - put jugs in a trash bag - put in trunk of car and dump the crap at Autozone or O'reilly.

You're paying the fee when you buy the oil anyway you might as well take the moment to dispose of it properly.

incidentally I use the same pan for trans oil, and diff oil. And yes I do actually dump that at the autozone or Oriely too - based on how they recycle oil.

I would not put coolant in that pan though.

I use a 3 or so gallon low profile storage tub to catch the oil. Put the fresh oil in the engine, then pour the old oil into the oil jugs I just emptied.

Get a Fumoto valve. Makes changes a bit easier.

I have the 16 quart basin like you show but I now use a 5 gallon steel container myself. I use an over sized funnel and just drain the oil directly in the container. It has a screw cap and inside the hole you can pull out the spout to pour. This way its easy for me to take it to the local town garage for recycle.

I will recommend a filter for you. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KS8NWI/ref=od_aui_detailpages01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It says it doesn't fit the G8 but it does..Its much more heavy duty high performance version. The base plate and housing are more heavy duty and the filter inside has more media in it. You will feel the weight of it compared to the other one PF48E

Im going to do mine in March (tranny flush) and have the shop I found do it that helped me yesterday with a quick tightening of the wheels and torqued them for free with putting it on their lift and test driving to make sure I did not screw up more all for free.

Doing the oil change yourself is not a bad idea. One less thing for the monkeys to screw up. I have been using the same shop for my vehicles for years, but recently the owner opened a second shop, solely for commercial vehicles. The new guy he has pulling wrenches now is a nice enough guy, but wondered why I was pissed he put all TEN quarts (2 Mobil 1 5-qt jugs) into the motor! "doesn't this have the dry-sump motor?" he asks, as he is looking up at a plain old "wet" sump pan...

Been doing my own oil changes and basic servicing for years. I cannot see spending what the dealers charge for shit that can be done in my garage.

One thing that pisses me off is that I now need new TPMS sensors and they want a frigging fortune for new ones.

yeah discount tire direct has them for sale but the price is a little steep.

I might get them through Amazon ..found ones that say OEM with 2 diff pt#s that match the G8.

LOL.. When I typed that I wondered how it would be read and thought maybe I should say it differently. My local landfill has a big drum to recycle oil I dump it into...and a handy dumpster for oil filters and empty bottles. I recycle everything I can ..... I'm OCD on many things recycling being one of them.

That pan works great! simple sometimes is the best. Cleans up nice.

AH SO. I know it's not really common to be ecologically inclined on a car website that doesn't say prius, tesla, or leaf on it.

but used oil is one of my few major concerns.

texn884
02-15-2017, 09:35 AM
When I got the drain plug out I did not have the drain pan just quite right so the gusher of black crude shot at me and went past the pan but my lighting fast reflexes I got it in place with only a Minor Oil Spill!

As a good eco concerned person, I did not call the EPA or any other government agency I just wiped it up with paper towels and tossed them in the trash!

Oil is made by Mother Nature just like Gasoline and if you notice on the road sides the weeds and grass grow so good and GREEN with the oil, gas diesel run off, what does that tell you, all this crap is a fricking scam! Yes you should not dump it on the ground but if some does spill Mother Nature will take care of it!

I have a flexible funnel (it's a piece of flat lead in a cocoon of rubber) and I put that up to keep the oil going IN the pan. The first time I changed the oil in my GT (2008) it was a mess!

Sounds like it was so me lol but we make adjustments and Modifications to the oil change equipment and make it better n faster!

The sense of accomplishment.

You guys just reminded me to do my annual oil change. Thanks!

Don't remember anything unusual about the early oil changes. Only that 8 qts is more than my collection pan holds and had to do a quick shuffle with a 2nd pan.

Will be switching to synthetic only because of the concern with the lifters/cams on the GTs.

when I do oil changes I only raise up one side - odd I know - but this way I get under there drop the filter - then move the pan a touch - open the spout - get it started - drop the car so it can drain level(ish). Then I fill my new filter, while waiting, clean up this or that, raise back up - stopper, filter, wipe - drop again - fill up.

wait 5 minutes before starting the car.

Don't forget to hold the gas pedal to the floor and crank. This disables the coils (I believe) and doesn't allow the car to start, but allows it to move the oil through the system before starting.

Yes, holding down the gas pedal while cranking disables injectors, so it will turn over but not fire. Great way to prime oil passages after internal engine work.

Holding the pedal down shuts off the injectors, not spark. Its designed to allow clearing of a flooded condition.

Don't miss out on a Fumoto valve for your oil pan. That F107N and a piece of 3/8" hose into your drain bucket will change your life. You'll have to intentionally spill oil from then on!

so how much is all that. nifty and all but I don't often have spills. to be fair the most difficult bit I have is when I get the filter off.

but i have a big pan - oh and well big hands so most of the spillage runs down my hand.

edit so approx - 25 dollars for a valve. do you use any of the other pieces? The plastic L for example or the valve with the nipple end?

either adapter?
