View Full Version : Loud CLUNK coming from the front , but mechanic says it's not the LCAs. Thoughts?

For the past 3 months, I have been hearing a loud CLUNK from the front suspension, which I assumed were due to bad ball joints. Usually hear it first thing in the morning when backing out of a parking stall, but also later when making hard left or right turns. I took it to the Chevrolet dealership along with the "15289: Special Coverage Adjustment - Front Lower Control Arm Ball Joint" paperwork. The mechanic drove the car several times, heard the clunk, and says the LCA are fine, but can't find what is making the noise (I was told he spent 3 hours looking for the source).

Has anyone else experienced something like this?

It could be the sway bar end links either going bad or need tightening. If it has an aftermarket sway bar especially, I would check the nuts holding the bushing brackets; mine will work loose sometimes and start a sound like this and they just need tightening...they are never loose, but just not tight enough.
