A strange and funny day at the exhaust guru. Went in this AM to have the exhaust system installed. So I park the car to wait for a lift to open up, and I look up and, WTF? There's a PBM GT sitting there in front of me. Keeping in mind that I have never met another GT owner in the year that I have had mine, and seen maybe 4-5 on the road in that time. So we talk awhile and this guy is a cool dude from Nova Scotia (wherever the f*ck that is), stationed up at one of the Navy bases in WA. as a sonar operator. Anyway, this guy has a complete Borla system he's waiting on and he spots my G8 from the street and figures, might be a good place to get it installed. This guy Mark, ends up staying the whole day at the exhaust shop and even helps me get the $%(*&$^%&*&^ cutout wire harness installed.

I invited him to the board as he has lot's of the usual questions that we all had when we were new. The world is a strange & often interesting place, eh? :p

Previous attempts at pics & low quality video of past exhaust ventures, including the now galaxy famous $66.00 exhaust mod have been met with howls of laughter and demands for tar & feathers.

Yep. A much more sanitary install this time. I have to hang a middle support on both and then I'll feed myself into the meatgrinder and post pics. :nah:

P.S. - The first person that asks for a video, with or without sound, will receive the dreaded "curse of the Penguin". This results in the victim having to pass an object the size of a penguin egg (roughly the size of a grapefruit, with sharp edges) every time you sit down in the bathroom to do some relaxed reading.

This is, as you can imagine, a fate worse than death! :hang:

True! Exactly the effect I want. 1) It drives the local ricer boys bonkers. 2) As to the previously mentioned "$100 millionaires" that swarm these parts with Audi, BMW, Mercedes, ExLexus, Acura, Range thingy's, ad infinitum, it seems to be about how many exhaust tips your car has. 1= lowly ricer. 2= Fairly weak. 4= Studly. 6= WTF? So they tailgate to try to figure out who would dare build a car that is beyond "Studly". Sadly for them, if it is not one of the previously named "rides", it does not compute. As none of them have ever seen the Kingly Holden Lion badge they go berserk since the car is so obviously better looking than their own, and it sounds ferocious too. Therefore, mission accomplished! They are forced to drive Mommy's BMW home, hide in a closet and suck thumb all weekend.

If it took 17 tips, I would still do it just for that reason.

Lets face it, Penguin's old exhaust looked.... well.... WEIRD! Like his car had mutated into an angry 6 tipped monster. Now it looks purposeful- still weird, but weird in a (dare I say) good way. The only changes are: Magnaflow X pipe replaces big center resonator. Behind axle where exhaust pipes take a sharp turn to go to the stock cans, a short custom made header pipe about 3" long is welded in ea. side. The cutouts and purple hornies glasspaks bolt directly to the short header, run under the spare tire well using zero- clearance reflective insulation, then to the 2 center tips. The only other way it can be done is with a short pipe with lots of bends that would feed into the side of the stock cans. There is no other place for the glasspaks. No room!. I could put short downturns on instead of adding 2 more stock chrome tips. But WTF fun is that? So that's the way it is, and I like it. Very deep, mellow rumble at idle. Ear shattering scream at WOT.

The speakers are turned up. I think the glasspacks sound pretty similiar to my Borla axlebacks. They do sound good, but I was expecting loud like Charlie's open headers!

Ah, the goal was a deep mellow sound. I can control the mix with the servo cutouts. Even with the cutouts full open, exhaust can still flow thru the stock exhaust, so all 6 tips are used. With cutouts full closed, there is no exhaust thru the glasspaks. Just like stock.

That's a nice sound. As you pointed out, I noticed vapor coming out of both the glasspacks and the mufflers. I like the burble on decel. It probably sounds great in manual mode if you let off and coast.:headbang:
