View Full Version : "Blower Cam" question

I'm planning on getting a blower but it will probably be in a year or two. I wouldn't mind getting a cam sooner. I have two questions.

1. Should I go ahead and get a blower specific cam and if so how will it affect the horsepower?

2. If I should get a blower cam, what specs should I look for?

Thanks.

Not sure what all the differences are in the cambuilds between blown and not, but Mike @ New Era, had mine done with the blower in mind. I would contact him, or Andy @ Livernois for some better info.

The guys mentioned above would know.

I did notice something recently.
One of the "Blower Street Grinds" offered by a vendor
(224 232 .581 .595 114) at first glance appears very similar to
the Livernois Stage 1 [224 230 .581 .590 114].
There might well be a lot more to the story once you go deeper into the specs, but I found it interesting that a generic blower cam had a similar style to something we know works quite well with L92 heads.

Point being there may not be such a large gap between the ideal blower cam and the ideal N/A cam with these engines compared to other engines.

Bump for any additional info.

I wouldn't stress much about this. For a street car, you probably wouldn't notice the extra 10hp the "perfect" cam would give you.

Our stage 1 cam rocks with a blower, we have had guys make over 650 rwhp on stock 6.0 shortblocks with it... the bigger question is what type of blower?

That's insane. Put me in a straight jacket then.

Whats left of a stock tranny at that HP?

well, the 650 rwhp one has a bone stock 6l80e in it and went about 30k mile of pure street racing with it, that car goes bottom 10's. The 750 rwhp car had the trans built By Rossler for us...

when you say went 30k - you mean 30k before it blew up? ;)
How much does a rosslerizing job run? My long term goal is the same thing: Cam + Blower (maggie 1900 or even 2300) but worried about internals + trans.

These new Maggies can make a ton of steam, they are way better then the old ones. I would put them head to head with just about any other brand, plus they make torque :D

it did break at 30k, IIRC including r+r is around 4500 (this includes freight)
