New sponsors and paint schemes.....some still incomplete.
Interesting to note some of the Ford windscreen banners are gone.
Vodafone have replaced their Ford oval on the front grille with a pigshead and shaved the Ford badge off the trunk.
(Ford cut their team from the racing budget).

Yes apparently so.
Dumping the only Ford team who's won anything in the last 10 years and another of the most loyal and long term Ford teams in favour of a couple teams who just run around in the top 15 banging into things seems to be the new strategy.

Stone Bros who run the Vodafone cars now offer their engineering services to any team and brand with a $. SBR and DJR both said they were disgusted and planned to look at running Holdens (but they didnt).

It's amazing, a car that looks like one you can buy in a showroom and they race it. I wish they had something like that in the USA. I vaguely remember there being something like that over here about 40 years ago.

I think they make Holden run the Ford front A arm suspension & locked diff too.
The only real things that are brand specific are body panel shape and engine block as far as I know.

I think it was last years Bahrain round they repainted one of the HRT cars to be a Chev, with the bowtie on the hood and everything, as the locals don't understand "Holden Commodore" but they do understand "Chev Lumina" which is what it is sold as over there. It looked pretty damn odd too.

2007 Desert 400 was the first time.

In years past there's been many reasons for this happening.
eg:
a) There may be rule changes that apply to the new model (eg aerodynamics) which make hanging onto the old car as long as possible an advantage.
b) The first few rounds might be notorious circuits for heavy damage to cars, so teams are hesitant to immediately field brand new cars.
c) The car builders may have not had enough time/parts to build new spec cars for all the Ford teams between seasons.
d) The teams sometimes find that it takes a few months to fine tune and develop the brand new car into a package which is faster on all circuits than their old car. There are strict limits on the amount of test days per year that a team can use which must make the job of introducing a new car a heap more difficult than it ought to be.
