You and two friends decide to take your 250 mile new G8 on a 300 mile roadtrip? Cover the front end to protect it from rock chips.

Heres some before, during and after pics

btw two rolls of 2 inch and one roll of one inch blue painters masking tape is enough for the front end.

That is wild. We tape our cars when we Auto Cross race ,but never done it for a trip. Are you going to get that 3M Clear Bra?

Ummmm... That is a bit extreme. It's going to get chipped unless you never drive it or leave the tape on permanently.

errrrr....

It may not of loooked good but it definitely did its job especially with all the sand and salt on the road from last weeks snow storm

hahah, must have got some fucked up looks

People were confused, at one point my friend took out his iphone which had a program like an etch a sketch and when he saw people looking he wrote "its blue tape"

It was just for the trip. I know cars are going to get chipped up but I figured that I was driving for a long enough distance to justify it.

Btw the reason i have "GONE Racing" on the windshield is because we went to a dyno day with the GTO group I belonged too. GONE stands for GTO owners of the NE.

And no im not going to do the 3m clear bra, I dont like the look of the film on the car. It gives it an orange peel look

Wow, that was a whole lot of tape.

You can't treat it like it's made of glass. I tried for about 500 miles on my car myself.

Just thought it would be easier in the long run if you were going to do that kind of tape more than once.

Nah probably not. It was just one of those things that I decided on since the car had 250 miles on it.

I like it! I may do the same thing on my PSM. I have some 3M 4" wide electrical tape. :p

LOL interesting idea. Just get the 3m Clear bra on there. Although if you are careful who you are behind and keep your distance between the person in front of you, you can minimize the chips. I have 5k miles on mine and only 2 little chips i filled in with touch up paint. Which took 2 fucking weeks for the dealer to get in!

hey do what makes you happy.... i personally like rock chips.... if a chick sees them, tell her you were goin 160 when that rock jumped in your way! i used to work with 3m tape all the time when i was in the finish dept... its pretty expensive!

If you guys think that's weird, there's a post on a forum somewhere about a guy who was delivering an S4 across country. Instead of just doing the front end, he did the whole car. :nah:

Lots of people do it, it's cheaper then buying a car specific bra, and it doesn't mess up the paint.

Oh, and you forgot to do your mirrors!

I would have never considered doing that....I would have laughed at you if I saw you driving it, but I do think its an awesome idea and did exactly what you wanted....
