Would you get rid of your G8 for a Chevy SS? If so why.

Yes, if I totaled the G8.

I'm on the totaled bandwagon too. I don't care for the looks of the SS, but, I think if I drove one, I might be able to live with the looks. Consider this, many people think our G8's are G6's or some sort of BMW. By and large the G8 is a bit of a sleeper, the SS goes even further in the sleeper side with it's Mali-pala looks. Folks would think they just got spanked by some sort of bizarre rental car.

The interior of the SS is SO MUCH BETTER than the G8 ever hoped to be, but that being said, only if something happened to my GXP. Hard to beat the exclusivity of it when only 1829 examples were brought in.

Nope, way to much time/parts/effort into mine. No plans to ever part ways.

Nope. Too much time put into it. Even if it were totaled I'd buy it back and park it right back in its spot in the garage.

Another vote for the "only if the G8 got totaled".

She's been mine for 6 years last week. Still, every time I walk by her (sleeping in the barn for the winter), all clean-tires still shining, I can't help but say out loud "DAMN, she is a good lookin' car!" Is she the fastest? Nope. Is she able to park herself? Nope. Do people have ANY idea what she is when they see her de-badged self? Nope. Have I seen more than FOUR of her siblings in the last year? Another Nope.

We are in an exclusive club, especially those who took delivery from new.

Yes, if I totaled the G8.

My thought also. As far as mine goes, when I'm done with it, it's my son's.

No, I haven't even made the first payment, and yes, if it were totaled. I'd probably look for a M6 SS just because of the new technology and last of the zeta. I'm not goo goo over the exterior, looks too much like a other Chevys, but the new technology in the interior would make up for it. If I couldn't afford it, I'd look for a reasonable GXP, even though the used prices are not that far apart.

I have my moments. I test drove one and was blow away with the technology as well as the interior considering every year cars get better. Is it worth the price? Not really. After test driving the SS I walk back to my G8 and realized that she still looks amazing and yes people have no clue what the car is.

Yes. SS looks fine to me, and all the improvements are more than worth their cost.

I really wish the hood on the Chevy had some styling pizzaz.

Is that Green one still have your eye?

I like the SS and the tech it brings with it. My concern would be with future parts availability (used parts, new body parts, etc...). At least with the G8 there are still a bunch of them out there, relative to the SS. With that said, there were two cars that I would trade my G8 in on and that was a C7 or CTS-V...

Came very close at one point last year .. Took the SS for a drive ..Nice ride ..interior is far more superior to our G8s and of course the power was nice ... but ..I kept looking at my G8 in the lot and I could've sworn she was crying saying :bye:. I just couldn't bring myself to do it! ;)

I cannot believe this 7/4/2016 she will be 7

I would take the ss over the g8 but not the payment for that car. For the same price I would get a used v2

I love my g8 gt great cars. Mine is a 09.5 with 47k. If not considering a SS I thought about selling my gt for a gxp due to rarity reasons 1,829 made. But who knows I always go through my stages saying "what about this car"

A lot of people say that, but honestly the squeeze going from the G8 down to the CTS-V is almost not worth it...

Also I want to add that I looked at a 16 Charger Scat Pak right before Christmas (Just fkg around looking with a buddy that just purchased one)
..Honestly ..I was really impressed with the power and quality

Look at reviews (honest ones) of hellcats. There are some serious interior/exterior build and materials quality issues with them. Honestly if they can't get a Hellcat right I don't believe for a second they can get the lesser models right.

Good to know. It seemed nice when I took his out for a spin.
I will never spend that kind of $$ for that car ..the scat pak charger they had was 46k ..I could never see me spend 70 on a hellcat.

I'm 160lb 5'10" single and have a full size four door truck also. There is no squeeze to the v with me.
I really want a lotus exige so I'm not worried about size.
But I like the ls power plant and the touring and comfort of the four doors that's why I chose the g8. Plus I got it for a great price. It was between that and a c6 as a salvage rebuild project. But the c6 would have sat for a while until it was finished and I had the funds to finish the g8 when I got it. So that's what I got.

No, I'm doing with cars that have low mpg. With the amount of commuting, and knowing at some point gas will be high again, I need something fuel efficient. I have 109k on her now and have no immediate plans to sell. When, it does become time, I'm going to look for something with a turbo.

Seriously considering it. Car is salvage because of turbo fire. So it's either a race car and gets hauled around on a trailer or it gets rebuilt.

Again?! Or are you just saying since the last incident?

I would have bought an SS in the regal peacock green, but not for $50k and GM needs to win me back after my experiences. Almost bought the Charger scat pack, that was an awesome 4 door experience and much cheaper with my negotiations to about $38k OTD, unfortunately I didn't want to pay that much. I like value, it's reason I bought my G8 in 08 for $28k, nothing could beat it in that price range. Bought my new Mustang for $32k OTD again because of value.

Since the last. It's no longer tagged or insured at the moment. In Indiana you need to get a rebuilt title after it's marked as a salvage. In any event, I'm currently doing some body work.

I don't see ever getting rid of my G8 unless MAJOR crap fails on it. SS's are definitely nice (I sat in one at the dealership waiting for some work to be done to my wife's Equinox) but not for $47K. Turns out our vet has one in silver and it actually looks damn nice.

Indirectly I did go G8 to SS.

Did G8 to CTS-V, then 4 years later did CTS-V to SS.

Only if it was totaled and I Couldn't swing my way into a M6 GXP. I love the G8 and have since day one when I rented one in 2008 on business trip. That day I said I own one.

How was it going from the V back down to the SS? Do you miss the power at all?

If I go back down to an SS it will be for a 6M car.

SS is as luxurious in the inside as the Caddy was, and in has better technology (HUD, lane departure, autoparking).

I added a whipple blower so the power is actually better than the V.

The V felt more solid at high speeds though and sat lower to the ground. SS has horrible wheel gaps!

Much the same as the G8. It rides a little high compared to the wheel's OD.

I would be very hard pressed to get rid of my G8 unless it became seriously mangled or totaled. The SS's have really grown on me, though, and I could see getting one in a couple of years. Hopefully, I can keep my 8 and get an SS too! By the way, I saw my first SS in the wild yesterday, a Heron White one and it looked very sharp!

Completely agree! I've seen many leave, I'm still here... no plans to sell the G8. Thought about a G8 GXP but I have too much time in this one, fixes and upgrades to start over. Someday I'll have something different probably but when....could be a long time.
