Is there any reason not to take the engine cover completely off and leave it off? Other than an increase in noise, will this hurt anything.....

Nope, no reason at all. Mine's been off since I got the car.

It won't hurt anything. It also holds heat in. I think taking it off will help a tiny bit if anything.

I didn't notice a change in the engine noise level either way.

Get rid of it! It really helps with heat soak.

I cut the center out of mine, relocated the heater hoses, and removed the fake middle intake cover.

Has to run cooler, plus looks cooler. Covering the coils really looks better than not.

Personally, I like the look of the LS motor. In my opinion it is a work of art.

What about heat to the hood? Any worries with color fading of the paint or something like that?

Unless you are running a turbo or something that builds a lot of heat I wouldn't worry about it.

My Cobra motor got super hot underhood, and never did anything to the underside of it.

Just for comparison.... I'm saying with the super hot KB blower.......the G8 will never generate that much heat.... or HP... LOL.

I'm usually going to fast to heat up the hood. :)

I had the car home for 10 minutes and took that cover off. I like seeing the coils. I wouldn't think there would be any issues with heat to the hood, seeing that the engine is much closer to the hood in a 4th gen Camaro and they never put any covers on the LS1.

I am looking to remove the factory covers and do something to keep the coils covered. I have always liked the covers on the LS-1 engines in the vettes or the smooth covers from Street & Performance.

I guess we are talking about the heater hoses now. Mine were from Charlie's heater hose relocation kit. TechAFX makes hard line kits for the camaro but are not for the G8.

I happened upon a never used set of Charlies hoses for sale a couple of months ago and bought them. I had them on my GT and they looked great. The PO of my car cut the OE hoses and it's a lot better than it was originally, but not as nice as the new hoses. I have yet to install the new hoses.

It seems to work good. Although the kit didn't seem to come with enough clamps. Either way, I have yet to run the heat. But I've flushed the cooling system and had 0 leaks. Not that I ever drive the car. Lol

Is this the kit (http://paceperformance.com/i-11635361-afx110311-techafx-g8-commodore-looks-rite-heater-hose-package.html) that you used?

I just noticed your heat shields on your firewall are cloth. Mine are dimpled aluminum. Hmm...

Your whole firewall is the aluminum? Mines like his and has the aluminum on the lower areas but has the cloth above it.

No, just the lower edge, but his looks like it's all cloth. Maybe it's a bad angle on his photo.
