THIS INFORMATION COMES FROM MY 1-13-09 Thread - "285's"........

The stock 19" wheels and tires weigh 54 lbs. My scale showed both wheel and tire weighed 27 lbs, though Bridgestone says 28 lbs on tire. Stock wheels are Enkei and are made in Thailand.

The 19 x 8.5 Beyern Multi's w/ tire ALSO weighed 54 lbs! Beyerns are TSW and are made in China.

The rear 19 x 9.5" Beyern w/tire weighed 58 lbs. Bridgestone shows the 285's weigh 31 lbs, so the wheels would be 28 lbs, or 1-2 lbs more than the fronts.

FOR COMPARISON: My Shuk WR-1 GTO wheels weigh considerably less!

17 x 8 w/ 245-45-17 Bridgestone 750's are 44lbs. They are 9.6" wide with a tread of 9.0" and turn 811 rev. per mile. This is 4 % smaller than the G8 19" front. If you used this tire on the G8, it would be about 3 mph optimistic at 60. The stock tires are almost exact GPS vs. Digital Speedo.

17 x 9 w/275-40-17 Bridgestone 750's are 46 lbs. They are 10.9" wide with a tread of 10.0" and turn 811.

If you are trying to save weight when racing, you would be savings 44 lbs by using these light weight wheels and 17" tires. Both custom sets of wheels have a hub diameter from a BMW = 72MM.

TPMS re-calibration was a snap!!!! worked correctly the first time, even with 2 inflated stock TPMS wheels in trunk..... (wondered why rears showed they were working on way home!)

FYI - I currently have Shuk wheels on my 09' G8. Speedo is only off by about 4%. This wheel and tire combo make the car much more responsive. Steering is noticeably different. Ride suffers... must be tire compound???

Have set of 19" staggered Breyton Race CS on order for 09'. Will weigh and post pix upon arrival. Shuks going back on GTO.

Rob I have to come experience those 17's before you swap them out!
I'm also really surprised the stock wheels 19's weigh as much as they do... I know they aren't really really heavy but I feel like they are so simple they should be lighter

Rob, how do you like your oversized wheels & tires? How's the handling? Can you give a detailed account of the differences between your upgrades vs stock? You know, how's the turn in, ride, tire noise, etc. That would really be appreciated, by everyone I think.

Can you stick a meatier tire on the 17"s? Screw looks. I want the most performance I can get and I'm sure the Shuk's would give you a good 60'.

I would guess you could go a bit wider, maybe 285's. Not sure what's available in 17"s. Since these are 2 piece wheels with wierd valve stems that come from center, not sure how TMSP would work.

I have since installed a staggered set of Breyton Race CS using stock rears with 12K mi for fronts and 275's on back. Much slower, and heavier feel, just like the Beyern staggered Mulit's with 285 rears on White 08'. Think this is a design characteristic with our Bridgestone 050A's. Meeting "Snowbird" Mon. afternoon. He just installed a staggered set of Pilot Sport PS-2's on a different 19" Breyton wheel design. Very curious on how different his car responds to the tires.

On my 09' G8, the 17" Bridgestone RE750's are much more responsive, provide a much firmer ride, and are pretty noisy, especially in braking, even though they only have about 9K mi. on them. Will be hauling them north to put back on GTO in May.

On a former Volvo we owned, the same tires went over 35K, but were extremely noisy around town. Really made the wagon handle great, compared to stock 16" Michelin A/S. Volvo gone, wheels and tires in garage! (limited wheel fitment).

What I meant was a taller tire. One that would fill the wheel well up nice.

But does anyone know the weight of the stock 19's with tires, and TPMS?
