View Full Version : New Scanner & Data Recorder - What do you guys think?

I had the opportunity to meet with the guys over at Drew Technologies.

They make a nifty little device called the DashDaq http://dashdaq.com

This is a very high quaility unit similar in function to the DashHawk. The main difference are the graphics and ability to program.

This thing is pretty awesome. You can make the gauges look just like the actual gauges in your car. It also has input channels so you can run a wide band a/f meter or a 3 bar map sensor and have it display on the screen.

Another big feature is the ability to upgrade to a navigation system.

I have been driving around with one for about a month and I can tell you this thing is pretty cool.

I am looking into interest in this product. I can get a substantial discount with quantity.

I would sell a G8 version with most of the GM data upgrade included in the price. We could also have a contest to see who can make the best G8 background & gauge screen.

Thanks Guys.

Interested?

Would this be similar to Edge products and their system that you can change power settings?

Not at this point :)

Lets just say there is lots of room to upgrade.

Looks cool as hell and I'd love one, but no way I can get that money for something like that any time soon.

What about your hand-held tuner?!?!?! AND some upgraded Maggie tunes to boot!!!

WANT!

Question 1 - My DashHawk is currently mounted on the left side of the cubby that used to have Atari guages. Is the connector plug to the back of the DHawk the same?

Question 2 - What is the overall length and width of the unit? All I could find was that the touch screen (cool) was 4" (probably diagonal). So, need outside dimensions por favor. :p

OK, scratch question 2. 4.6” x 2.75” x 1”

Depending how much actual interest we would be looking at about 20% off the prices listed on their website. I would include most of the GM enhanced upgrade included in that same price.

Kirk, I'd really love to buy that gem, but hard to justify with the DashHawk too. :(

It seems like a pretty cool product. The price really isn't bad for Navigation and DashHawk fuctionality, hell a new garmin Nuvi 880 will cost you that much. When I bought my Nuvi 660 2 years ago it cost me more. If I needed one I would buy it.

So if you get the discount it's 440(assuming my math is correct) for the non-navi unit. Cool device, i can see why people would like it. But you can get the DH for half that price and basically have the same functionality as the DASHDAQ. Little to large for my taste...

Can you please expand on what GM enhanced upgrade is? With the 20% off I would strongly consider the Navigation version.

I'm another guy looking for more info on what the GM enhanced is and also for more info on the Data Logging capabilities. The website says "Pick from over 2000 different parameters " However most Scan tools that are 500 bucks or less, only will show a few hundred at best, and many are more in the range of 40 to 50 parameters being monitored with the G8. I'd like to see a list of what can be monitored for the G8 and verify that you can save out the data to a spreadsheet for analysis.

I was considering a DashHawk from VMS, should I wait until this product offer solidifies?

Would this DashDaq be able to perform a Crankshaft Position Variation Learn?

I really like DasDaq's multi-function and creative screen abilities. Those things go a long way in justifying the price.

Dashdaq is only a 4 inch screen, not the 4.3 like most GPS units that fit in the center console gps upgrade.

I have a GPS that runs wince5, and bluetooth that I'm going to try and get to work with one of the bluedooth OBD II transceivers.

Should be interesting..

0.3" doesn't seem like a problem:

DashDaq = 4.6” x 2.75” x 1”

Garmin Nuvi 660 = 4.9" x 2.9" x 0.9"

Dash upgrade fits up to = 4.94" x 2.9" x 0.94"

I am REALLY interested w/ the GPS, assuming that it will be workable w/ the interior gps mount/swap kit that some of us have ordered out of Australia. This looks to be JUST the ticket. And I'm sure it can be adapted IF it won't be too hard to get the necessary wiring to it.
