Ok I have had this problem for a long time but now it's gotten to the point of ridiculousness. At first I though I needed a simple alignment but it seems it may be more than that. When the car is cold, and I go off in the morning, the steering is almost uncontrollable. The wheel will literally turn way left, than way right and then completely left ALL ON ITS OWN! Like a ghost has control of the wheel. I occasional grinding noises the first turn or two in the morning, and on the highway, the steering wheel vibrates violently! That is, until later in the day when the car is more than adequately warmed up. And yes, I let the car warm up in the morning before going anywhere. I usually remote start it and finish up breakfast so the car is running a good ten minutes before I even sit in it. What's going on with my steering?

Sounds like a issue with the steering position sensor(EVO Switch).

Is this a simple fix? And it seems to only happen in the morning while cold. after driving it around, it goes away

A trip to the dealer. It could have a valve sticking in the P/S pump also since its a cold thing only.

Your car is possessed by evil spirits from the outback in Oz. The only known cure is to bring in a penguin exorcist from the Pacific NW. There is only one of these odd creatures in existence and thus very expensive. Send $10,000 in cash or money order to:...................whoa! New York?

Never mind.:p

Whoa...don't mean to revive this old thread...but I am having an issue with my steering angle position sensor. Basically what I did was take the wheel off, install some shift buttons on the back of the wheel and put it back together. I would be lying if I told you I didn't turn the clock spring since as it was very interesting to me...but I did. So I immediately got a Stability Control OFF warning. Every time I drive the car now it does it. Dealer hooked it up and it said it was the steering angle position sensor. I thought I had it centered in there, but I guess not.

My question is did you ever figure out what your issue was? I didn't know if they had to mess with the sensor at all...or what you found out. Thanks.

I did the exact thing to my car. I had a shop I know with the tech II scanner look at the steering angle. With the wheels pointed straight it read 360 degrees off. The technician turned the wheel until the tech II scanner read 0 degrees. He then pulled the steering wheel off and turned the clock spring to the correct position and reinstalled steering wheel. He then recalibrated the steering angle sensor. All better now.

I basically had my clock spring off by 360 degrees. You probably did exactly what I did. I turned it not knowing this would happen.
