Someone chime in. I'm looking to cut about .2-.3 tenths from my et. Which one, the Vararam intake or the Ported Intake/TB combo? FYI I currently have the NE side style CAI at the moment.

well Trifecta will have a Vararam G8 on their dyno here very shortly :) (im working with Vince with my car) he lives about 10 miles from me! I will also being doing ported intake and TB but not until after we do the header / vararam tune first.

Yeah, Vince is the man. I don't think he sleeps though, because I sent him an email at 12am last night and he responded within minutes and got my retune this morning. I promise you won't be disappointed in the tune. BTW, I have a UDP for sale if you're interested.

That's a tough choice. If I could only do one, I'd do the porting first. You already have the intake.

Thanks but I just got my bolt for mine :) will be put on the car after the tune as well... and yes he is vey good from what I have seen!

I'm going to go in a completely different direction for you.

Put a higher stall torque converter in the car.

You'll pick up .4-.5, the rpms will not drop as far after the shifts, and the car will feel like an animal.

Go at least 2800, I have a 3200 and don't feel it's too much.

Yea, you don't get anymore HP out of it, but the car will be better able to use what you have now.

I agree but being that he said vararam or porting I assume he is on a budget.. like me :)

I know, I am now also, the economy sucks for us all. ;)

I'm just giving another option.

Since he already has a CAI and Tune for it, I would recommend foregoing the porting now. The converter will make a much bigger difference.

I know I have been trying to sell myself on a converter for mine! problem is than i wouls need DR's for the track to really make it work to its potential... and I dont want my mileage to go to crap like the TBSS

Just an FYI, I just can not see going from one aftermarket intake to another being worth 2-3 tenths, if one is better than the other then one tenth is possible. The porting would probably be your best bet right now.

I don't think that will pick him up 2 or 3 tenths either.

You're right George, but I think the intake and tb port would be worth more power in his case anyway.

With ported intake and tb I have seen only 5hp change, most of that was the tb.

What were the other mods? I think the combo would benefit more from a modded vehicle.

You're right. I am on a budget. Ironically enough, I ordered the 3200 converter and sent it back because the total cost for parts and install was almost $1300.

Wish you were closer, we could do it for a couple hundred dollars cheaper for you.

I guess I should have finished my post and said "for more horsepower based on your options listed in your initial post" at the end based on the comparison of what he was looking for. I wasn't implying the converter wouldn't be a better option for better 1/4 mile time, but from a cost perspective of what he was looking at based on the initial question, simply stating my opinion, that's all.

Anyway, hope you can get something out of the info stated in this thread to help you in what you want to use the funds you have towards your goal with your G8.

Of course, and some good DRs, but based on my last runs at the track, I believe this goal is attainable.

I am certain that 12.3s are there for the taking.

12.2s if everything is right. (I mean everything)

11.99? I just don't know.

If anybody can crack a 12.0s or a 11.99 on a stock motor it will be you George. I think a 20 or a 30 is easily attainable in cooler weather for sure.

If Vararam ever gets their CAIs shipped out...

Since I already sold my Roto-Fab, my car is going nowhere fast.

That's going to be tomorrow's project. Supposed to be in the high 40's here.

Then I'm going to jack up the nose and tear the intake and TB off.

ddcook08, I never said the intake and TB work wasn't worth it. ;)

I know it works, and every little bit helps in the long run, but I was looking at right now from a budgetary and performance standpoint. Did you read my pm?

Hey Charlie, I'm about to lose mine on this race to 12.0s. Good thing it only snows once every 5-10 years here in New Orleans. :windy:

I think George and Charlie need a special section in this forum. I can't tell you many times I get sucked into reading their chats and I end up forgetting what the OP was about!

Does the OP have the OTR intake already?

I have like 600 PMs since the start of this board, 597 are back and forth to Charlie. Then we start the back and forth in threads. lol

No the OP doesn't have the OTR intake he has the NEP side style intake.

I'd be plenty happy driving around in a 12.2s car, which is what I'm aiming for too.

If I get there I'll probably just slap on a mild nitrous kit to hop up into the 11s whenever I'm feeling antsy or take it to the track.

It's really gonna fly with the kit. Everyone keeps telling me to put a kit on mine, but I'm not, for right now at least. Maybe after I'm in the 11s with my bolt-on car. :nah:

a FREE divorce?? Now I know this thread is bs!

Kidding aside... the ported stuff was my first mod... only because I had Jeremy do my tune... and it happened to be there. With those mods, and just an air filter(not cai), my car has run 13.2's at 106-107...

It's not all about peak hp either. The TB definitely helped part throttle response, and allows the air to begin getting in that much sooner. It's not a glamorous mod, but it's a good one.

Pretty good track time. I'll be getting it today, :woohoo: so I should be able to post track results by Monday or Tuesday.
