Anyone had issues with that headliner sagging? Mine is coming down at both corners in the rear window and the driver's side near the windshield. Ugh.

This is the first I heard ..damn!

Any moisture in the car due to possible leakage. Thats the only thing I can think of that would cause it to do this

None. But it sits out in the Texas sun most days, which gets it to ~185 degrees inside the car.

The extreme heat is just as bad ...it could break down any spray glue that could be anchoring anything down ..seen this with door panels ..dashboards and middle counsel covers.

The main issue you have to worry about is bleed through of the adhesive you choose. And here is the problem most of the good adhesives that will stand up to an automotive environment (heat, wind, dirt) will bleed through the fabric. So you are left going with a craft type adhesive to make it look nice, just the repair may not last as long.

Something like:
http://elmers.com/product/detail/e422

The real solution is a professional redo where they can use thier industrial adhesives and tuck the material to the back to really give it a secure hold.

But look around and see what you can find in a non bleed through adhesive.

Lot of folks seem to like the 3M 77 product. Says dries clear so any bleed through would not get noticed:

The headliner is made up of two parts, fabric and foam. If there's only fabric hanging, (and the foam is falling apart )you will need a new headliner soon. The foam has been cooked in the Texas sun. It will continue to fall apart.
With that said, mine started the same way. First in the rear and front edges. Then a few months later it started to sag from different areas. I was gonna come on here and ask if anyone else had this problem, but i guess i don't have to anymore.
Now to the best part, where can we get new headliner??

Oh yeah mine is dead. I'm taking it to an upholstery shop and changing the fabric there and on the rear deck lid (also coming loose) to something a bit nicer... Alcantara perhaps?

Mine literally came down in several places in just one day. Went out after work and something was rubbing my head and I thought "what the heck!". Right now I have it pinned up with hat pins all over. I'm just trying to hold on until the heat dies down a little before taking it to my upholstry guy.

Did you get this fixed? Any shop you would recommend in the Houston area? Mine is looking like an 80's Cadillac... Thanks!

Quick bump for this old thread. My headliner went from a few wrinkles to completely falling off in about a month!! Anyone in Houston (preferably South side) have a recommendation for an upholstery shop??

Most of the time, it's the foam that lets go.

Seems like this is coming home to roost for a good percentage of the G8's. Mine starting doing this recently and is going in next week to get replaced. Hell, a whole new headliner from GM w/sunroof is nearly $1,000!!!

Jeeez, $1k!?! Not sure if its because of the sunroof, but I have been quoted $300 by 2 different shops (w/o sunroof). Now, that is just a "quote" but i cant imagine it being $1k.

Mine did this last year. Started sagging right over the driver's head, then after my A/C crapped out and I drove for a weeks with the windows down, both back corners fell. Maybe if you've got just a small sag you can fix it for a while with glue, but all the research I did said once the foam starts breaking down it's only a matter of time. I had mine reupholstered locally.

For all you other folks in Houston, I went to Master Auto Body and Upholstery off Fondren on the west side. It was cheaper than I expected, something like $250 with no sunroof. They didn't have an exact match for the factory fabric, but the guy showed me a couple choices and I picked the one that was practically indistinguishable from what was in the car. The quality of work was fantastic, maybe a slight wrinkle along the edge of one A-pillar that might bother you if you've got OCD. I'm really happy with it.
