I'm trying to replace my oil pressure sensor due to p0521 and p0522 codes and the filter they gave me will NOT go in far enough. I'm pretty sure there wasn't even one in there in the first place. I have the LS3 valley cover. My old valley cover has the same screen still in it. Is the filter used for the ls3 cover any different? Do I need the filter screen?

The filter screen is only used in AFM engines to stop shit getting into the oil control solenoids in the LOMA.
It's not a screen to protect the O.P. sensor, it just happens to live inside the boss under the sensor on AFM valley plates/LOMAs.
The AFM screen won't fit into (non-AFM) LS2 or LS3 valley covers.

Excellent! I searched all over to find the answer to this and couldn't come up with anything. Thanks for the response! I'll go ahead and put my sensor in and take back the screen.

You're welcome.
I checked this out for someone else about 2 weeks ago.
If you do try and put an AFM screen filter into an LS2/LS3 valley plate oil pressure sensor boss.....then the filter sits about 1/2" or more too high and doesn't leave you enough female threads to get the sensor torqued down. The O.P. sensor would bottom out on the filter underneath it.
The reason is that the AFM oil sensor boss has additional machining below it's M16 thread, a relief bore where the Oring on the screen body can seal.
There is no relief bore below the M16 threads in LS2/LS3 oil pressure sensor boss, so an AFM screen will just hang up in the female threads and not drop down far enough inside the boss.

Interesting, I tried to buy the exact screen here at local Holden dealer and was told that part is not available separately to the valley (obviously incorrect).

Care to sell it and post down under?
