When is a good time to replace the front O2 sensor, and how do you know when they are going or getting lazy. I have 120,000+ on the original. Starting to get lower mpg and slight loss of responsiveness. Nearly everything has been changed that could effect milage, plugs filters oil all fluids etc etc

I would put more thought into the injectors and oil/carbon in the intake and heads. A BG injector service runs less than $200. The best thing is to do a compression test.

You would have to run a scan to see what the O2's are doing

What is the name of the scan....what do I look for. I have a PLX device. What do I look for? Last year when putting on rockers the heads were extremely clean, I have a catch can, when I v cleaned the intake it too was really clean, void of carbon sludge and oil. The maf and HSRK and air cleaner were cruddy. But all cleaned up nicely. The air filter was mainly filled with sand and bugs.

No access to such a device....

any scan tool that has the ability to read direct reading from the O2 sensors - can give you an indication of how they are responding.

but for the money - and time.

perhaps you should just get a set and see. I don't think they are expensive (40-50 each) and perhaps get to and replace them. I'm thinking about replacing mine and I have 127 on the clock.

Hmmm....question, I thought I only had two one upstream and one downstream. Looking up prices I see Denso, walker and Bosch, Between 24 and 144. Lists upstream left and right. Downer am listed as 100 bucks more. Confused

A pair of stock AC Delco sensors are under $70 on Amazon. (http://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-213-1568-Original-Equipment-Heated/dp/B000C9JPO6/ref=sr_1_10?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1432043524&vehicle=2009-52-6613-39--1-6-7-8191-2561-1-1-2676--3-0&sr=1-10&ymm=2009%3Apontiac%3Ag8)

Gotcha, thanks. I was thinking of my last car regal g's... Only had one on the down pipe. I bought two OEM from Amazon. Just the two fronts my backs are useless. Thanks for all the help. I will post if any difference.....

are the front and back the same part number - I never looked them up.

but if you have them tuned off (turned off) then why not use a bolt in their place (the aft ones I mean)

In the question and answer part below item on Amazon, a g8 owner said he used same and all worked fine. I just ordered the same but not installed yet. Car in shop getting trans rebuilt.

No, the back sensors have a different connector.

As a note on Denso's: I put a new front pair in when I installed cats. They both are giving me intermittent codes after less than a year.

you know I've always heard that 02's replace when you replace your stock spark plugs. but meh, never did so.

perhaps I should. HP tuners shows they seem to respond OK but they are old and have plenty of time on them.

Your right, front left and right same ...fronts different then rears...I left my rears active so I could use stock tune when I had to...

So has any noticed any improvements after installing?

Last time I changed mine in other cars, I noticed a mpg difference, but I changed them because I tried everything and my mpg was down from where it was for years. Changing the O2 sensors brought it back to where it was. I have the two new sensors but not in yet, trans being rebuilt, waiting for its return, let you know when i get them in....

places say the denso is the OEM, or rather the maker of the delco one.

I've seen others marked as NGK.

I know Bosch makes many of the other OEM units - and I thought GM used bosch O2 sensors, but meh - things change.

I was leaning toward some bosch ones.

I have used ngk and dense, had bad experiences with Bosch twice before and won't use them or their spark plugs.

so did the o2 sensors fix your mpg?

did it at least increase your MPG?

I think I'm about to replace mine prior to a major road trip.

Based on your results I'll change mine too. 67K. Mpg now down in the 18's, was 21's. Subscribed.

I used OEM, which were the Densos, replaced left and right front sensors, which were same numbers....I got 1 mph city and 2 highway overall. What I gained most notable was the responsiveness I gained from the change. Very good idea to simply change them out when near 100 k miles. Also purchase a o2 special wrench to change them....

tight as a melonfarmer huh. I was going to get Delco ones. seems like they are either the cheapest - or the next to cheapest when I search out.
