View Full Version : 2-3 OBDII gauges - will it work?

So I'm going to finally get some gauges in Christine this year. A 5 gauge pod from CP is in my future soon but I'll have to wait a while to spend hundreds on gauges to fill the pod.

What I'm looking to do is...

Speedhut gauges for the bottom 3 - oil temp, oil pressure and trans temp
pair of Aeroforce Interceptors displaying - boost/vac and intake temp on one and something else on the other one

Thing being is that both brands use the OBDII port. I know they make Y splitter cables for OBDII ports but it looks like there's a splitter already when you use two Interceptor gauges based on the description on Maryland Speed's site. The Speedhut ones are CAN-BUS, not sure about the Aeroforce. My understanding from skimming the web just now is CAN allows unique ID's for 'devices' so there's no cross-talk/confusion with signals.

Does anyone have an idea on how this would work out? it'd be a Y cable and then a Y off of one of the first Y's ends.

I was also looking at the PLX DM 100 this morning and discussing with a coworker. After a short while I realized that we have some pretty cold winters in Michigan so I'm not sure how the OLED display on a PLX or the LCD on an Aeroforce would work. Could they be damaged?

I've read the Speedhut gauges won't work when there's another OBD scanner plugged in so I don't know if the Aeroforce would kill them.

Per Speedhut's site - "Gauge (individual or daisy chained) will not function when used in conjunction with any other OBDII device."

It may be a good idea to shoot them a note about it before making the investment.

Why not go all Speedhut? The boost gauge is a bit pricey, but the others are pretty reasonable.

Thanks Matt, I emailed them last night but haven't gotten a response yet.

I like the look of all matching gauges, and it'd be cheaper to go all Speedhut also. But being able to change a couple of the gauges would be nice if I need to. I guess the question is what else might I need aside from

1) Boost/Vac
2) ??
3) Oil pressure
4) Oil temp
5) trans temp

Fuel pressure

is that what you've got gauges for?

I was suggesting another gauge to fill slot #2.

I have 2 Aeroforce gauges, with sensors for my wideband, boost, and fuel pressure.

Hmmm... Fuel pressure would require splicing into the fuel line?

Don't be such a noob, lol. (kidding!). On your 2300 there is a fuel manifold block on the drivers side, where your fuel line connects to the 2300 fuel rail. On the back of that machined block, the firewall side, there is a threaded port that's perfect for a fuel pressure sensor, right now there may be a Schroeder valve there.

Heh, I've used "Bob the Noob" as my name on many forums. It started from my first World of Warcraft player ages ago. I thought it fitting 'cause I was a Noob, no getting around it. Since then I've used it because there's no way I can know everything I need to.

That's where I threaded my fuel pressure sensor. Later when I had my fuel system installed, I had my shop tap into my fuel rail to add a Schrader valve.

Got an email back from Speedhut and they confirmed their OBDII gauges don't work with other stuff on the OBDII port also.

What range should I get for Fuel Pressure? they have 0 to 15, 30, 60, 100psi. For the oil pressure I was just going to go 0-100psi. Not sure on the oil/trans temps though.

Either 60 or 100. Stock fuel pressure should be 58psi. My Aeroforce sensor is up to 100.
