TSW Cadwell. I'm going with 19's. 8" in the front, 9.5" in the back.

What do you guys think? It'll be on a white G8.

holy hell you guys responded fast. I think this is my new home, more friendly and active than g8board.

Will it work with the following offsets?
Front: 8", 35 offset
Rear: 9.5", 45 offset

I think that'll work, just want to make sure. They also offer a 20 offset in each, but I think that's too far tucked in.

Yeah, I don't see many of them. I was thinking mesh or many spokes, which is a classy look for a sedan. But, they suck to clean, and I want to retain a sporty look. 5 thick spokes is nice, and highlights the muscle car feel. But, I wanted something to make it look a little more sporty and agile. 5 thick spokes is just too common, and looks like stock. I decided on the split spoke, because it gives a nice balanced look. Kinda simple and powerful, and it'll give the car more of a refined, agile appearance.

I'll take some pictures if I pull the trigger and get them in. They're kinda steep pricewise, I wanted to stick with 18's @ under $700 and reuse my stock tires (stock wheels have blizzaks now). But, they have a sportier look, and I think they need to be at least 19's to work. So, ~$950 + tires.

how big is the lip on the 9.5 45mm offset?

Paniller
03-01-2009, 08:36 PM
I think it was 1.75" for the front lip, and 3 or 3.5" for the rear. I forget though

yep, confirmed. 1.75 and 3.

Just bought some TSW's and really like them.
Wouldn't a 20 offset push the wheel farther out, not tuck it in? The 35/45 offsets should fit great though.

Larger positive offsets put the wheel toward the inner well. A good offset for a 9 1/2" wheel would be around 50mm.
Nice looking wheels.

Doesn't make sense. A 45mm offset would fit, but a 35mm offset might rub and 20mm would stick out past the fender. The stock offsets are around 48mm aren't they. My 35mm offset wheels are more toward the fender well than the stock rims are. So a smaller positive offset should push the wheel toward the outside fender well. Am I missing it completely? Used website below for comparison.

So, before I dump money, you guys are sure the 19/8"+35mm front and 19/9.5"+45mm rear will work?

I'm just worried because I hear a 9.5" w/ 35mm offset will rub. Yet, a 45mm offset will lose me another 10mm of backspacing. So, won't that rub as well?

19 x 9.5" with a +45mm offset will work.

Did you check prices? Discount Tire is offering $50. off per set. VQ sometimes has better prices also.

I have narrow 5 spokes on Sport Red - one issue is that hub shows. (These are temporary - off my GTO ) Car was on lot for several months and hub has some rust. One neat thing... you can paint your calipers red! TSW has many attractive 5 spoke designs. Several have wider lips (2" front & 3" rear).

Wheels are ultimately one's personal taste!

Positive offset - the hub mounting surface is toward the front or wheel side of the wheel.

From the sticky in this forum.

Rule of thumb: the lower the offset, the further the wheel moved OUTWARD of the fender, and vice versa.

Offset is from the centerline of the wheel. If you increase offset, you are moving the centerline of the wheel. The mounting surface doesn't move.
So if you look at it like that. Adding positive offset, moves the wheel away from the mounting pad.

lol, yeah. I never gamble, just went there for a birthday party. My friends were gambling all night, and I just watched. Later on, I got drunk and figured I'd throw $5 in the video poker machine. I told my friends "Just watch, it's always the guy that doesn't gamble that wins." Five minutes later, they find me surrounded by security people, counting out $100 bills. lol.

Not a life changing amount of money, but it certainly helps right now.

wheels ordered. $1830. Kinda steep, hope they look as good on my car as they do in the pictures.

$1830 - $1000 AC winning - $650 income tax return = $180 wheels for Paniller!:woohoo:

Though, it sets me back on my VMS tune:spank:

I'm with ya. I just figured if I had to buy new wheels, I'd might as well go with something original. All my other choices looked very close to stock. This was the only choice that wasn't the "thick 5-spoke" look.

They came in this morning. I'll try to get them on tonight if I can shuffle stuff around to get garage space (brother and his gf went on vacation, I'm cluttered with cars).

I'll have to see how they look on the car, but I'm a little disappointed. They don't look as aggressive and sharp as in the picture. Also, they have a faded chrome appearance, no high contrast black vs gunmetal like in the picture. The black section looks light grey in the real world. They're much plainer looking than in the picture, and it almost looks like the spokes aren't as close together. I guess pictures can be deceiving. It does look like the GTO linked though, so thanks for that. They look nice, just not $1800 nice. I like them, but don't "love" them. One I saw them in person, I started wondering if I could have done better. I guess I'll have to see them on the car.

I only unwrapped 1, a 275/35/19 wrapped one. Weighed ~59 lbs. I guess I'd have to weigh the 8" fronts with 245/40/19 for a fair comparison to stock.

I'll see if I can get them on tonight, give the car a bath, and snap a picture or two.

They will look good on a white car.

Charlie, do you think the staggered fitment (8" in front vs 9.5" in the back) will cause any type of handling issue, like hard turn, in or something like that? I'm planning the same upgrade with TSW wheels in fact (different ones).

What do you guys think? It'll be on a white G8.

Those are the same wheels I was originally going to get but got impaitent waiting for them to finally be available then a couple weeks after I got my Breytons they were available! I hope they turn out good for you. I'm very happy with my Breytons!!:woohoo:

I'll try to get them on tonight. I tried last night, but ran into issues. Wasted about an hour and $45 worth of sockets to find out that the stock lug nuts were 22mm. Then, I got everything off, and realized the replacement lug nuts provided were 12x1.5 instead of 14x1.5.

Round 2 is tonight.

Paniller
03-20-2009, 07:21 AM
tonight. I promise. Trust me, I've been trying.

. 4 runs to stores and $45 to find the right socket
. wrong lug nuts
. 5 runs to stores and $45 to find the right lug nuts
. a sprained knee from stomping on a breaker bar for a stuck nut
. a rounded lug nut
. a trip to the mechanic resulting in "I can keep going, but the stud will break"

All detailed in here.

With any luck, they'll be on tonight...all of them.

Yes they are. The car I just traided in for my G8 I had 19 TSW Nogaro's on them. I have debating weather to put some new Nogaro's on my G8. My second choice of TSW's was the Caldwell. I really want the CCW SP500 but that's another 1K for them:wacko:

They look badass at night, lol.

Anyway, I'm reporting back with a good deal of rubbing with a full car. Their maiden voyage was to pick up my brother and 2 girls from the airport. The girls were slightly on the thicker side, but not fat. With a full car and luggage, the tires rubbed terribly in the back. Good size bumps, or bumps while on a slight bend/turn rubbed.

The second trip was to a party, as D.D. Yes, it's been a terrible day of taxi driver for me. My friend and his girlfriend, she was in the back. No rubbing.

So, 275/35/19's on a 9.5 with +45 offset will rub if you're hauling cargo.

GeorgeInNePa
03-21-2009, 11:08 PM
Are they rubbing on the outside?

45mm is the edge of "advisable" offset, according to some of the tire/wheel sellers.

45 to 60 is the range we need.

jimmytt6

Has your car been lowered????

Paniller
03-22-2009, 03:03 PM
Nope, not lowered. Unless the rental car company that owned it before me lowers their fleet. lol. Lemme go check for marks, to see if it's the inside or outside rubbing.

update: I don't see rub marks anywhere. Maybe the outside edge, because the white trim (my paint color) part of the wheel well seems a little uneven. Maybe it wore down? Still though, nothing out of the ordinary. I'd say it could have been my luggage, but it was pretty distinct rubbing sounds. Plus, it came from whatever side the car was leaning to during a turn.

I should have some people sit in the trunk, and see where it touches when it leans down. In the pictures, I have a 56lb spare (blizzak on stock 18), and a ~20 lb jack.

jimmytt6

How narrow of a wheel are they trying to advise the 60mm on? That would jam a 10" against the inner edge, or so it seems

20x10"

It was a post by Discount Tire on another website.

They said the acceptable range was 45 to 60mm offset on a 20x10.
