First, I don't know if this is against the rules. If it is I apologize in advance to the suppliers.

I just went to buy my wife new wiper blades at Advance Auto. While I was there I thought I would check on the price of Mobil 1 5W-30 and a filter. The oil is 7.69 a quart and 10.99 for the Mobil 1 filter so that would be 72.51 for an oil change. However, they have Mobil 1 on sale buy 5 quarts and filter (all Mobil 1) for 29.99! I asked if they would break it down so I could buy 3 additional quarts and they said no that I would have to buy the same deal again. so for $60 I get 10 quarts and 2 filters. Heck, I bet after I bought it I could turn around and return 2 quarts and the filter if I wanted. Sounds pretty good to me even if I have to keep the extra oil and filter for next time, which I probably would. basicly $6 a quart and you get a free oil filter! Just thought I would let you guys know.

Well, since 5qts isn't enough for a G8, you made a good choice.

Just keep the extra filter till your next oil change and buy two 5 quart bottles of Mobil 1 at Walmart for $50. Or just go to Walmart and buy 5 quarts of Mobil 1 for $25 and you'll save $5.

Costco was way up in price. A six pack today was $5.99 a qt.... SHOCKED!!!!

Wally world is still the cheapest!

For all of you GXP owners the Mobil 1 filter is the M1-113. They had to call Mobil 1's head office to make sure, the computers didn't cross reference a replacement for the standard P48 filter.

For the Gearheads - I took my GXP by the dealer today for a few small issues. Someone with IMO G8 GT was there to get warranty work. I was listening to his issues to try and learn a little (and suggest anything I had seen on this forum) and he ask them that when he had his oil changed it was 2 qts low. Here's the kicker - the dealer told him "yeah, these engines use about a quart every 2500 miles" Alright, this doesn't sound right to me but I would like your professional oppinions.

No it isn't right at all! They just didn't fill it up all the way.

That's why there's 9 quarts, so you don't run out of oil before it's time to change it. (Just kidding!) I have heard the LS motors do use oil, and last time I checked mine (about 1500 miles) it was down a half a quart. So that sounds about right according to what the dealer said. Now that you mention the issue of oil use, I'm going out to the garage to check mine!

In 1500 miles? That's crazy. I had almost 7000 miles on my last oil change. Still had 55 percent left on the DIC. Oil was still on the full mark.

Agreed! In the 11,000 miles the penguinmobile lived, it never used or leaked any oil. And it got bounced off the 6200 rev limiter quite a bit. :p

I just checked it and it's still down a half a quart after 3600 miles, and the oil life is at 53% in engineering mode. I didn't check the oil when I bought it (the dealer said it was just changed) so maybe it was down a half quart when I got the car and it hasn't used any oil. Seeing the OLM is at 53% after 3600 miles, I don't think they used synthetic oil. If they did I would think it would last longer than 7000 miles.

The oil life monitor isn't able to distinguish between dino and synthetic oil.
Longer run times, and less city time extends the oil life.

So it must be calibrated for synthetic. I wouldn't want to go 7000 miles on conventional oil!

Added: I do 95% city driving and don't drive my car easy, so there's no way I could get that many miles from conventional oil.

Are you using synthetic? Since I haven't changed the oil since I got the car, I have no idea what's in there.

We have 9 quarts of oil. Most of my driving was all interstate. I travel for work. My office is 150 miles door to door. Interstate driving is the easiest on the oil life.
Conventional oil is better than it was 5 years ago.
My wife's '07 Ford Escape has a 5000 oil change interval.

Walmart was 27 bucks for a 5 qt jug of Mobil 1 5w-30, so 54 bucks to have an extra quart 10 bucks for filter..... or Dealer does a Mobil 1 oil change for 75.99. Normally I would not but 1). I dont have the ramps, 2). getting rid of the oil is kinda easy since I drop off at walmart as well, but I just cant pass up the 75 buck Mobil 1 oil change

Hope this helps on thoser that want to change more often and use synthetic i still am not used to a 9qt change.

Mine used a tiny bit when I first bought it, maybe 1/4 to 1/2 qt in the first 1500-2000 miles, it's been 2000 miles since my last change with semi synthetic 5-30 and hasn't used a drop, didn't use a drop the second change either which was 10-30 dino oil.

There have been several LS series motors that come into my shop that would be down a qt. or two between oil changes, called GM and they have said that that is perfectly normal, yea right, this is my 3nd LS motor and so far this one like my other two have not used any between oil changes, HTH.
