Hi

I had to remove my engine because of an oil pump failure. I have the block currently at the machine shop and was just going to have them hone it. I was just going to re-ring the stock pistons but now i am thinking otherwise.

I ideally want to do a mild N/A DD build. I think i'll keep the stock crank and go with .005 or .010 over pistons. Might as well do new rods also. I'll probably shave the heads .025 to bump the compression and go with a decent cam. I'm looking to keep the build as cheap as possible (of course) since i'm not looking for a ton of power.

What are your guys thoughts on before i go and pull the trigger to have the block bored over?

Bill,
Find the Pistons you want to use first. If you shave the heads you'll want know how much valve relief you'll need.
Get the block cleaned.

I recommend you pay someone like Rick or Pat to spec out the parts for the build and then buy them and assemble. Rick has some damn fast NA cars.

a l76 can only be honed .005. Like Ray said get the pistons first. I took the pistons to the machine shop when I had mine honed.

Step back.Take some time to figure out what you want to do first BEFORE any machine work.

Are you deleting the DOD?

I would say plan on $4K.

there are many threads on this forum dealing with rebuilding an engine and cam swaps. Search can be your friend :)

I guess I jumped the gun on asking questions, just want to get the most for my $.
I'll see if I can get a hold of of Rick or Pat to help me out. I didn't realize they did stuff like that since I know they are so busy.

DoD is gone already and will try getting the most from an N/A build. I've got a LTs, high flow cats, and a solo exhaust. Looking to get a medium/large size cam as I already had the livernois stage 1 cam. Going to get a stall while the engine is out as well.

Any suggestions on the oil pump? Would a stock replacement be enough or should I go with a higher flow/pressure one?

Thanks for the replies I appreciate it

I am having mine torque plate honed 4.010" at the moment, max overbore according to GM is 0.020" meaning 4.027".

Depending on the cylinder pressure and application 4.030" is not uncommon here.

OP check out JE FSR Asymmetrical high comp, the engine rebuilder (Aussie V8 Racing control engine contractor) chose them for my build as a custom order to suit 14:1. Slant like Audi / Bentley / WV (A8 W12, VR6 & Veyron).

Contact Rick Crawford. He builds the fastest G8's in the country, using stock gearing and stalls. His little Lunati cam would be perfect for your build.
Don't worry about when you ask questions. People here are willing to help.

I'm sure you can find an ls3 or ls2 bottom end in great shape for less then building your. Not to mention what you'll get for your block, crank, rods after there cleaned and inspected.
You can check around on the forums and even some salvage yards. Some yards may have wrecked late model gm v8 cars.
I did find a c6 zo6 that was. Hit in the quarter and a fender bump after the first hit sell for $8000. He'll by the time to you sell the interior and what's left of the suspension and body you'll probably make enough money to fit the ls7 I NV your car then sell your stuff for all the goodies you'll want to stick on.
Just my opinion.

Hey Rick I sent you an email at the one you have listed in your sig. I'll get the bottom end built up here and hopefully you can help me out with the top end.
Can you let me know via email or PM on where and when to send the heads and intake if you are available?

Regards,

Bill
