I'm about to be picking up a G8 GT next weekend. It has a built LS3, ported heads, fast lsxr intake and a 229/241 614/591 113 cam. I've toasted my fair share of autos (2 4L60s, a 700 and a 4L80) and ive heard horror stories about the 6L80's and their problems so I'm wondering before I put a grand up for the higher stall it needs, should I just go ahead and put a tried and true box in there for much cheaper. I drive like I stole the stuff I got so Im on the fence.

6L80 will work fine with a good tune. I see no reason to switch unless you are planning for insane power or building a full time drag car.

Why not go with a 6L90E, it will require some custom modification but nothing crazy. Mainly the drives shaft since it's a tiny bit longer. If you get it used you can build it up the way you want, there's a descent amount of aftermarket parts. This is if you planning on high HP (over 700) as the stock 6L90 should last with proper tuning...

Find a G8 that has done this and post it.

There is nothing special about the G8 and it's been done many times on other vehicles. Hell I've personally done it on several swap vehicles and Gen 5 Camaros and it's been no problem what so ever and whenever mine goes out that's my plan. I wouldn't be swapping just yet though on a combo like the OP has and just let it ride until there is a problem.

NicD, I didn't say the G8 was special. I asked the previous poster to find one and post it. What's so difficult about my post?

There was a dude on the other board that tried it. I didn't see if he finished it or not.

We don't censor threads being posted from the other board.

I'm trying to figure out why you would post that if you weren't trying to imply that it isn't that easy, it can't be done, etc. Others have posted the same exact thing you did and inferred those same things in the past because from what I've seen most G8 owners live on the G8 boards and don't pay attention to anything else out there.

Just rembember Nic that the other car platforms use the 6L90e in one variant or another and their 6L90 uses the same TCM as their 6L80. Our 6L80 uses a different TCM from the 6L90 unless you use the one odd truck transmission I was able to dig up, but it uses the slip yoke and not the flex joint coupler.
I still think swapping the TCM/valve body from the 60 to the 90 would be the best option, but I would only try that after if the 90 didn't work out of the box.

Yeah don't use the 6L90 cal or TCM and just re-use the 6L80's stuff, done it many times that way on other swaps and it works just fine. Attempting to use the 6L90 TCM/OS just popped a bunch of codes on a couple of the swap cars and I had no interest in figuring out why at that point and just ran the original OS for that setup.

You need to take me at face value. I would like to who has done one and what is required.
We have 5 cars. I'm on more than one forum.
I can't figure out why you think I implied anything.
It was a simple and direct question.
Let me rephrase. Can anyone find a G8 with a 6L90 installed? If you know someone, please post in this thread.
A little about me. I'm an application engineer in Indiana, working mostly in the automotive industry. That includes over 40 Japanese transplant companies.
I have a meeting with Ford PTO/ATO Friday morning by Webx. Ford will be using IT to follow up on any new vendor projects. We developed our QLSCM to output to QDAS.
So our final test is Friday.
I posted this so you know I don't live in a G8 vacuum. My business life has mostly been private on the forums

Well I'm glad you don't live in a G8 message board vacuum like most others I see, that's a good thing. Like I said it sure appeared like you were implying that it just can't be done as I've seen the same from other people on this board and the other one.
I haven't seen anybody online post up that they've actually finished the swap to a 6L90 in a G8 but I will tell you what you need to do as it's pretty simple as I've done it on many other platforms and full swaps. Modify the trans cross member, modify the driveshaft, run the 6L80 TCM/OS.

i am really not sure why anyone hasnt tried it yet either.... its easy... only if you use the 6l80 tehcm...
new driveshaft... modify mount a hair.... I put one in my car and bolted it up myself... (actually I just put the outer core in.... inner stuff wasnt in it)... I really dont see it being an issue at all... now if they try to use the 6l90 tehcm... hehe... thats a whole different story...

And on that note I'll say I can sell and flash the TECHM modules on my bench with G8 VIN for easy installs :)

Just a little FYI for you guys..... the 6l90 in the Zl1 is a direct swap for the 6l80 in the g8. The 6l90 in the Zl1 is the same length as the 6l80. I'm not saying that the case is the same length as the 6l80 but the Zl1 6l90 has the shortest tail shaft of all the 6l90 's and has an overall length that is the same. I have done this swap in the camaro and have one that I am building now to hold huge power levels for my g8 as I'm fixing to make a run at the 1/4 mile record.

There are a few 6l90 swaps here, the current challenge with the release of TapShift 2.0 is whether new T43 in MY15 / Chevy SS will play nice and do its stuff when retrofit to the superseded tranny.
Looking for part numbers and software versions to validate in EFILive at thee moment.
