So it's time to get a car for the wife. We had several discussions from Caddy ATS's all the way down to an HHR SS. I know HHR... lol
Well I was dead set on RWD and really wanted a V8 I'm a die hard GM man. So that basically set me up with either a G8 or a new SS. I'm not down with $50K out the door. So here we are looking at G8 GTs. I wouldn't have minded a GXP but really the wife will be fine with the GT.
We are retiring a 2004 Impala SS with a 3.8L S/C motor. It has served us well for about 10 years and 170 thousand miles. So I started looking for G8 GTs and figured out fast that these things go quick when they show up. They range from low 20's to 30+. The higher the mileage the lower the price and the opposite is true too.
Well I started checking all the usual formats AutoTrader, EveryCarListed, and CarMax. Well the thing I liked about CarMax is the added security as far as buyer protection. So I found one in Illinois at a CarMax dealer for about $28K and only 10,500 miles. This thing is pretty much optioned out except for a sun roof which I don't want anyways. They are transferring it and it should be here by the end of next week.
After that long story can you guys give me a heads up on what to be on the look out for as far as known issues with these cars?

Known issues seem to be lifters, LCA, strut mounts and some other minor things like seat trim. That's what I can think of off the top of my head.
Personally that price is HIGH. I paid that price with taxes and all for mine new in 2008. That's GXP pricing.
Either way as long as you are comfortable and happy with your purchase that's all that matters.
Welcome to the forums and congrats on the new car.

Thanks for the reply. I know that at least in my area they are going for this. A buddy of mine got an '09 with considerably more miles(high 40's) for about $26K six months ago. So considering the mileage and it being certified I felt that was a reasonable price.
It's in line with KBB pricing also.
GXPs are going for low to mid 30's and I haven't seen one with this low mileage either.
Saying all that I would like to spend a little less but I'm willing to pay extra for the low mileage.

Hopefully sitting in a nice garage with a car cover on it... lol I'll find out by the end of next week. If it's solid I'll have it in my garage next to my 1LE Camaro SS by Friday.

Well our cars are holding their value good I think becasue the Chevy SS is in town now and people see $50K, yikes and then go look for a G8 and then like you find a VERY LOW MIleage car, SWEET!
Welcome from TEXAS and post pictures. I know you are excited and will love the car. Open the check book and let the Mods begin, LOL

Real cream puff, congrats! 1LE-SS ehh? With a G8 next to it, what a pair!
The most likely problem item will be the strut top bushings. My strut bushings collapsed just sitting in my garage, so by 8k miles I changed them to poly. The visible gap at the top says it all, check the Picts here on the boards.

Welcome and congrats on the find.
Low mileage G8s are out there (Mine included) but still hard to find unless you do your research like you did.

Cream Puff: A fat, lazy, sedentary person, who would rather sit, watch TV, and eat a bowl of cream than do anything physical.
I think we need to work on your thread title skills. Welcome. Nice Camaro, better G8. Even though yet to be seen, so far G8 by default. 5th gen Camaro's are way better than anything since the 70's. Is if just me or do 3rd and 4th gen camaros scream aunt mom and uncle dad?

Oh you guys got jokes... lol I see I'll like it here. The SS is a bolt on car for now, it put down 432/422 with Pfadt headers, ADM intake, a Vmax ported TB and a Formato tune.
Here is one of the dealer pics of the G8.

'09 or '09.5? The latter has Bluetooth. Boosts the value a tad.

No all have that button, the easiest way to tell is: VIN/if the rear seat has cup holders that come out of the bottom.
firefighter

Well I have the vin. But I don't think from the pics I noticed a cup holder in the back.
Anyone have a good vin decoder? Well a link to one.

I just rummaged around Google and figured out it was built in April '08 as an '09.

So no Bluetooth. I want that for the wife. It's one of the nicer features of my Camaro. Is there a way to add it and have it integrated like factory?

What's the 10th, 11th, 12th digit in the vin?
9L1
9L2
9L3
Can't tell from that rear seat picture as it slides out from the bottom.
You can add CoStar box, it replaces the onstar so you won't have that anymore if you care.

What's the Costar run? What's a source to get it from?
On star is less useful than Bluetooth.

Search CoStar, I think it's $280ish. If you have a 9L2 there is a slight chance you have bluetooth, if you have 9L3 you definitely will have bluetooth.
Might get lucky searching the forums and find one in the classifieds.

9L1... I figured out it was built in April '08. The $280 isn't terrible when you consider the safety it will provide. Thanks for the info and help.

The trim color is different between the '08 and '09 but not between '09 and '09.5. Getting factory BT is a pain and the parts are hard to find. Aftermarket is easiest way, but it's still aftermarket. The upside of that is aftermarket may get you BT audio, which did not come with the factory box.

So I picked her up last night. This car seriously is like it's brand new. I'm on shift today so I'll shoot some pics over the weekend.
Honestly I give this car a 90%-95% rating. I may have paid a touch more than I should have but this car seems to be worth it.

Well over the past two days I've gone through the car and I have to say this thing is really clean.
The only real problem is it has the original tires. So I was all set to buy a new set when I stumbled upon a set of VMR 701's 19 x 8.5 and 19 x 9.5 with 245's and 275's. They are going to cost me a couple hundred more than a new set of tires. So that happened.
Then I found a good deal on a Costar Bluestar II. That happened also.
I also ordered a Shark Fin. I hate the stock antenna.
A few miscellaneous other things and some touch up paint.
I had an order from Adams on the way before this. I took advantage of the Fourth of July sale.
I also just got my new Flex polisher that came in.
So there is some major movement going on around here.
I'll polish up the dynamic duo and snap some pics.

Thanks man. Keeping my fingers crossed. I'm going to go through the whole car over the next few weeks hopefully all is good.
I'm confident it will be.
