Time to spruce up the interior a little with some gauges.

I just received my Speedhut OBD gauges. They look great. So factory looking.

Also picked up a triple gauge pod. Just needs finishing.

I just have to decide now if I will paint the pod, if so what color, or if I am going to wrap it/do something creative.

You have no real intentions of selling your G8! I wouldn't if I was you.

I made some progress today on getting the pod ready to be installed.

Repaired one spot that had a crack and did some sanding and smoothing.

Primed.

Painted. The color is actually darker in person. Same stuff Greg mentioned and I also used this 3 years ago on my dash trim. It matches the color of the radio faceplate almost exactly.

Ok, this project is done. Kicked the crap out of me. Took me 5+ hours yesterday. That was until I ran into a snag. Got to the point were everything was 65% reassembled and wired; fired her up and voila.... gauges no workey. Messed with it for another 2 hours in the dark to no avail. No matter what I tried, I couldn't get power to the gauges.

So, as usual, I resorted to my lifelines - Crazy Paul, Ed (G8V8) and Chris (Chewy). I found out a couple things. A) I tried using the black ground wire behind the switch which is not a great idea. I ended up moving my ground wire to the grounded bolt near the radio frame-to-body which was perfect. B) T-tap electrical splice connectors are not my friends. They suck. First, I didn't fully understand that the metal piece needed to be pressed fully down with a pliers before closing the lid and then I figured out I used t-taps meant for larger wire resulting in the wire coating not getting fully pierced and therefore, no good connection. Even though some advised against them, it was still easiest for me to use them with the right size (I had to go out today and buy them) and use them properly. I can certainly see why many people hate these things. For me, being near that factory switch, I didn't want to cut and splice or solder etc.

All is good now. They look so factory and work great. Can't wait to see them light up tonight and the temp gauges rise.

The pod itself looks very, very good. Not perfect but for what I paid it's good enough for me. I need to touch up a couple tiny areas where I rubbed during reassembly. If I'm not happy with it, I'll have it refinished or wrapped later (now that taking my dash apart is old hat).

I'll take more pix at night and maybe a short video.

On to the pix.

DON'T PANIC!

Complete! Notice the dimmer dial to the left of the steering wheel. It's just double-sided tape. I can take it off if need be.

Oh, I also installed a glove box light kit too while I had everything apart. The light is awesome. So simple but....it.....completes.......me. LOL.

WOW! You took more of the dash apart then I did. I just moved the glove box out of the way. I didn't remove it completely. There's a fan under there?

Thanks. Yes, you, Paul and Chris were helpful as usual. I've said it 100 times over the last 5 years...this forum and its members are among the best. And Monty who was my moral support and for venting.

Illuminated pic. Car was still cold hence the reason the temp gauges were reading low.

Should be able to refinish it like most plastics. Either you can do it yourself or take it someplace professional.

Or just have it wrapped.
