While I'm out Diff hunting for the Spring, can someone just settle in my mind a technical item.....
I know the 3.45 whole Diff from the Camaro SS works in our G8's. Hundreds of guys have done this. This is a dead horse topic.
But....
A complete Camaro SS 1LE 3.91 Diff will NOT just bolt-into our G8, correct? Inner Axle issue or something?
A complete 3.73 Diff from a ZL1 will NOT just bolt-into our G8, correct? Same Inner Axle issue?
What if I also found a ZL1 Diff with Axles? Would that work?
Thanks for shedding light on this and resolving this in my mind so I can focus on exactly what to look for.

Randy,
The 1LE 3.91 will work just fine. I've sold a few for G8's
The ZL1 will NOT work. It just barely works in a non ZL1 Camaro
The ZL1 IRON diff is too large to fit and the axles are not the correct spline.
I will say this.
The new VF HSV is using the ZL1 rear so there are parts that can be had to make It work I'm sure.
Would be much easier if you had a Chevy SS ;)

Remember, Richmond makes gear sets for the Camaro diff's also.
Richmond also makes a 3.55 gear for the G8.

You know. I read this and thought for a moment that the Richmond R&P option could offer an economical solution to accomplishing my goal. In fact, the guy near me who did the air locker and R&P work on my son's Land Cruiser could handle this swap easily. Then I saw the price.... $600+ dollars for R&P + the installation kit. F that. Pushes me right back to a used Camaro 3.45. Damn it.

I installed a new 3.45 that I bought from Greg Was about 3 or so months ago.. This is one of the best performance mods IMO! Right behind a Cam/DOD delete... The car moves out quicker and feels lighter... It's easy to install too...

I had the 3.7's in mine from the GXP...felt great but I think it was too much. First gear disappeared after half throttle.

Just keep in mind that the Camaro diff has the one wheel burn out problem, too so you may need to do the JRE posi mod at an additional $200. It took me a couple months but I picked up one a couple weeks back. Good luck with your search.

Nothing is 'out' with sufficient application of time and money. Most of us just want something that bolts in without a lot of drama.

I've heard of the JRE mod but didn't know about the 1-wheel problem, can someone elaborate on this. I'm looking for a 3.27 this spring and thought they were all LSD?

I have the 3.27 in my G8 for quite some time now. Close to 500 hp at the wheels, and I can tell you, my G8 does not have this problem.

one wheel problem is the lsd wearing and not functioning correctly
also the V6 camaros didnt have LSD's , so you have to make sure and rear the tags on the diff , to make sure it says LSD on it

Does anyone know if the axle nut washers, are just regular washers or do they have locking or tabs type feature?

Any chance you have a camaro differential for my G8 GT? I would like 3.45's or 3.91's

The last post was almost two years ago. I hope your not expecting an answer. Look on ebay or salvage yards or the Camaro pages.

Even though this is a direct swap its not a quiet one. Most deal with more road noise and clunking from the rear.

I would think that it because they change to harder bushings at the same time. The differential itself should not run any louder.
However, you will need a tune, and more money for gas and tires.

I finally found a used 3.45 Camaro diff! I'm going to install it in the next couple of weeks.
