Thanks everyone. Yes, all of the electronic stuff i installed myself. All the engine, appearance, and mechanical stuff I let the experts do.

I use it for music, video, internet, Slingbox..............

Primarily for music though as I'm usually driving

Does the carputer allow for an upgraded sound card that will allow for 5.1 (or better) sound? I wish i could just shoot this factory HU. I have a perfectly good Sony XAV-W1 sitting in its box doing nothing :(

I don't think you can upgrade the internal soundcard. The VMOD is not built like a typical computer. Pretty much looks like a hard drive with bluetooth and wifi antennas.

I have not replaced any factory speakers yet. It is probably the least of my priorities at the moment but the lack of clean bass is killing me. I don't want to wake the neighbors but distortion is annoying.:poof:

There is no way to make the stock screen touch. Only option is to replace it with something else and those options are slim. Azentek is one.......if it ever comes out

so how is the picture with the AT&T broadband? it looked like the picture might have been freezing a little. is reception/speed usually better?

I live on the side of a mountain, so signal for 3G is not ideal. When I'm on the road it works better plus if you pause it and let the buffer build up it works pretty good.

Step 1: Remove the radio display unit by grasping the unit at the bottom and pulling toward you. It is held on by 4 clips that hold pretty well so you need a substantial amount of pull to disengage them.

Step 2; Pull the Volume and Menu Knobs off. Using a small flat head screwdriver remove the 19 screws from the back of the unit then remove the back and set it aside.

Step 3: Remove the ribbon cable from the circuit board by sliding the retention clip up and pulling the cable out. Note: The retention clip does not come out, you only need to slide it up to release the ribbon cable.

Step 4: Hold the circuit board at the bottom edges and rotate upward. It is not necessary to disconnect the top ribbon cables to do this. When done you will see the LED screen side of the circuit board.

Be Very careful with these little guys. There are 12 of them (4 on each side and 4 at the bottom) and they are used to complete the connection from the face buttons and the circuit board. As you can see some will stick to the board and can easily become lost. without them the buttons will NOT work.

Step 5: Place the touch screen overlay touch side down into the frame where the LCD goes. Be sure it is seated in the frame all the way or you risk breaking it when you put everything back togther.

Step 6; Rotate the LCD circuit board back to its original position. Be sure to put the original ribbon cable as well as the ribbon cable from the touch screen through the access hole in the circuit board. I used a pair of hemostats to do this but you'll have to figure what works best for you. Do not use anything metal you may short out the board.

This part can be very tricky because the ribbon cable for the touch screen is pretty short and in an effort to get it through the access hole you may pull the touch screen up out of the frame and have to start all over.

Step 7: Re-attach the original ribbon cable to its connector and slide the lock back in to place. Attach the supplied cable to the touch screen ribbon cable and route it down the center of the circuit and out the hole on the bottom of the frame.

Place the back back onto the unit BUT BE CAREFUL! ONLY TIGHTEN THE SCREWS UNTIL THEY ARE JUST SNUG. For all that have been following this post you know that my dumb a*# already broke one touch screen from over tightening the screws. :oops:DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN TO YOU! You've been warned.

You're done (with this part). Now all that's left is to put the display unit back in the car, run the cable from the touch screen to the controler board and then the USB cable from the controler board to your carPC, install the software, calibrate the screen and ENJOY!

The screen I ordered is TSR-065-4W 6.5" 16:9 4-wire resistive touch screen that lists for $59.00 at TVIELECTRONICS.com. You also need a controller board. I used a USB controller board SLT-TP05-USB also from TVI. It lists for $30.50. Of course you'll need the VIM mod as well. I did not have to modify the face in order to make this work. One of the members on a different board did slightly modify the face plate to get more clearance for personal preference. Also I just finished installing directed HD radio today and am running it through the PC as well. Centrafuse, the front end I use, controls everything. So now I have AM/FM/HD radio, navigation, and soon to come OBD II diagnostics. Centrafuse, as well as other front ends, will do Blue tooth phone connectivity as well. I don't have the computer doing that because my car has factory blue tooth. Again CarPC users rejoice!:woohoo:
