Hi. My airbag light is on from what I believe is due to my car once being in a crash.
I cannot have it reset at the dealer due to the. Custom ecm/bcm from the manual conversion.
So does anyone know if it can be reset out of the car. Maybe a place I can send it. Or even if it can be reset in another g8.
Also is it a vin match kinda thing? Or can they be swapped from car to car with no problems or just install a new one.

BTW there are no codes showing up.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks for looking.

I know of an outside service. I'll try and dig up their info for you.

Nevermind. Here it is
Safety restore.

$49.00 seems like a good price. I know a guy that has used this service and it worked just fine.

That's good to know Greg. Even when I worked at the dealer I had no option but to replace program the SDM. Seems like a legit place.

I was thinking also to fix any other problems down the road.
I have the original ecm and bcm. Is there a way to trick the system check to think it has a tcm and then the dealer can scan and program as normal.

Sorry I don't know the answer to that one other than having the dealer try and scan it as a manual GXP.

Tried that and a 6.0 holden w/ manual.
The gxp program is different. And the holden won't even scan due to some vin reason.
I haven't tried the tech 2 yet but I think you need to do the same check for it to program anything.
My master gm guy asked his contacts but they seemed lost when I told them what I did to the programs.

Don't mean to highjack this but will ask one question and be done.
Any chance this safety restore place could correct our B0081 and U0170 codes that gives us an airbag fault light? A $50 repair is a lot cheaper than a new module for $300!!

That's the same boat I'm in. But my car was wrecked so that's why I think it will work for me.
I'm going to call them after I move and see if there's a money back if it don't work. Or if they can tell once they try to reset it that its fine then just charge shipping.

The local sent a seat belt there to get fixed and he ended up having to buy a two new ones (about the same price as getting the old ones fixed) and they refunded the money since after their repair the light was still on. He popped in the new belts and the light went away.

A tech 2 doesn't go by vin to program things. I can use it and my MDI to program ECM's, TCM's and BCM's all out of the car, so it might work the same way in the car.

Update.
I got my car from the dealer and they can do a system check and they can reset the module.
Unfortunately for me I need to replace the passenger presence sensor.
So the news was good and bad.

I sent Safety Restore my module to see if they would be able to fix the codes. Hope to hear from them soon. Got shipped out on Tuesday. I'll let you know what the outcome is.

Sounds good.
You got the pass press sensor fault code?

Did you do the SDM relink after you installed the new BCM? Needs both a BPP and SDM reset with a scan tool after that.

I'm not sure what all that is.
I did the 10min on 30sec off three time thing.

No. William, Chris is saying your dealer needed to also do the SDM relearn with the BCM replacement along with the brake pedal position relearn that was done.
SDM (Sensing & diagnostic Module)

Well I heard back from Safety Restore today and no luck!!!!:lame: They said that they do not have the 2009 G8 program and don't know when they would. So unless someone else has any ideas, it looks like I'm going to have to go to the dealer or Pace and get this module. :jerkoff:

O I got ya.
Any way to tell if they did or didn't?
Everything seems to be working now and they said they got communication with the air bag stuff.

My guess is they didn't, the airbag light is most likely from the fact those procedures weren't done :(

BPP will also cause other issues IE cruse not working etc.
