How do you activate Bluetooth on a G8 GT? How do you know if it has Bluetooth?

Look at the VIN. You need to see a number sequence 9L3 in it. If you see 9L1 you definitely don't have Bluetooth. If you have 9L2 there is only the slimmest of chances you have Bluetooth. All 9L3 cars came with Bluetooth. That is the fastest way.
The 9 will be the 10th digit, the L will be the 11th digit, the 12th digit is the "key" to a quick review.
Another easy way - does your back seat have a set of drink holders that are NOT in the center armrest (that is a pair of pop out drink holders that come out of the base cushion at the center of the back seat). If it does you have a 9L3 car and you have Bluetooth.

If you are not a 2009.5 you're out of luck unless you get a costar a 09.5 onstar unit or somthing else.

If it has it there will be two boxes in the trunk and slide out cup holders in the rear seat bottom.

9L1 car has 0.000000000000000000000% chance of having factory Bluetooth. They are early production 2009 models. They have a higher chance of having bad lifters or lower control arms. If your G8 has over 50K miles - the bad lifters and bad LCAs would have very likely reared their ugly heads by now.

Unless previous owner added bluetooth. Mine is an L1 VIN and has factory bluetooth ;).

No Bluetooth in 08 period (unless someone added it after the fact)

Is there an aftermarket or factory add-on for Bluetooth? I have an early '08.

You can get a Costar but they replace the onstar box so you won't have use of onstar obviously.

I don't care about Onstar, so that looks great. The installation looks easy, aside from running a separate stereo line for the A2DP streaming. Has anyone used this? How is the audio quality?

Installation of the Costar box is super easy, yes. Just remove the onstar box and plug the two white connectors into the Bluestar box. I large velcro to "stick" it to the under side of the trunk. Not sure about the A2DP, I never used it before but I've seen postings on the site.
FYI - I'll have mine for sale soon when I get a chance to put it on the site.

I just hooked up the A2DP on my Costar, ram it to the sat wiring which is much closer/cleamer then running a headphone jack to the front of the radio... Working great so far and I have the Xiaalive app on my phone set to connect and play automatically when the car is turned on. Also shuts off by itself which is great. Quality is very good.

See this web site. You can add Bluetooth and keep your OnStar - works for all 2008 and 2009's without Bluetooth. You also need to buy a small antenna for the module. They are available from GM or Chris sells them.

I installed a costar and enabled the a2dp and the other thing, something to do with controls I think, without running the wire to the aux and it comes out stereo.

So you can stream music through the Costar without attaching the stereo wire to the head unit? Is this something new, I have the Costar II and didn't know this was possible yet.

Are you referring to this feature? Says it will stream in mono... I will give it a try either way when I get home , thanks
In cases where you might want to listen to streaming audio in mono, you can hear the LEFT channel only by pressing the RED mirror button for a second to put the BlueSTAR into Volume control mode. This will switch the radio into onstar mode and allow the LEFT channel to be heard over the speakers, similar to normal phone conversations. This can be useful when listening to audio books or other sources that do not require stereo sound. When done streaming, press the RED button again to exit this mode.

It works on my car too, but only comes through the front speakers and the quality is pretty bad(mono only) compared to having it worked to the XM sat harness...

I don't know if it is new but that's but mine streams out all speakers without the cable hooked up. Push the button on the right of the mirror then push play on your phone. I think it is the red button.
