Very nice Steve! Mine are on the boat as I type.

I'll be honest, I was really hoping to see some pictures with the fenders on.

Very nice Steve! Mine are on the boat as I type.

Hope you get yours faster than I did lol and Patience! Fenders are next - as soon as I
find a good body shop! (and hopefully sell my old rims for some $$ lol)

and yeah front I'm running 245/35R20 (on the 8 or 8.5 inches - box said both depending on which label you looked at...weird) and the back I have 285/30R20's on the 9.5

Tires are Bridgestone Potenza's RE960AS from TireRack

Steve, I don't think those match your car. I think your car would look extra good with a brand new set of GXP rims on it!!! Since I'm a nice guy I'll even take those old ugly rims off your hands.

That is one badass G8! Well worth the wait for those wheels. What brand of tires did you get, I wish I put 285s on my rears. Oh, Bridgestones.................won't be long till I wear out my nittos

Brenden said that your rims are getting stolen. :P I hope you've got locks.

Then he said he changed his mind because it would just be too damn obvious.

Rim looks ok - tire pressure was suddenly a good 10psi lower so I limped to the discount tire down the street who pulled a screw out of it...

I dont know who this Brenden guy is, but I would start there. Check to see is he has a bag of screws in the trunk.:secret:

Those rims look amazing! Is it just me, or could you have gotten away with 295s in the back? Those 285s almost look small on those wheels.

Do you plan on lowering it a bit? That would really set off the rims even more, imo.

Steve
11-22-2009, 05:22 PM
they're 285... a lot of people do 275s but they just dont look right to me..
and i've already got it lowered (too much! need to raise it a bit..)
Need to take some updated pictures..

Maybe it's the 285/30/20. The rears just look a little small to me and a little too thin when viewed from the side. I'm thinking some 285/35/20s may do the trick.

Either way, awesome car and I'd love to see some updated pictures. My wife even commented that she liked the rear window spoiler and she rarely makes a comment on cars.

I bought mine off ebay.au and Crazy Paul helped me with the rest. The current price from a vendor who won't be mentioned is over $4100 right now.

Just a word of warning, the vast majority of HSV wheels on ebay.com.au are not genuine HSV. Most are knock-offs or replicas and could be from any number of 3rd world country with little or no quality control.

Here's things to look out for.
a) If the ad says HSV "style" .... then its a copy
b) Pay attention to the sizes.
Genuine VE GTS sets are only made in 20x8 front and 20x9.5 rear
Genuine Clubsport sets are only made in 19x8 front and 19x9.5 rear
c) Look for (or request)photos of the inside of the rim showing HSV part numbers and HSV logo

so pretty much, just give up on trying to get them and forget about it? damn....

or buy them when the US$ is performing much more strongly against the AU$

March 03rd 2009 ....1 AUD = 0.629351 USD 1 USD = 1.58894 AUD <---good
January 11th 2010 ...1 AUD = 0.930512 USD 1 USD = 1.07468 AUD <---not good.

Is the machince shop just boring larger holes in the block or doing head work too? Did the shop give you an estimate on how long it assembly would take once they have the block back?

Steve
01-23-2010, 12:46 PM
I did the full writeup on my blog (didnt want to spam the forum with it).
but the machine shop is doing the overboring and installing the crank, rods, pistons and cam and balancing. Livernois is porting heads & doing valvejob, while the shop that has my car is the one taking it out and putting it back together....
I'm hoping maybe the block itself will be done end of this upcoming week and then re-assemble/put it back in the car. I figured it'd be 2-3 weeks total and it's been about a week and 2 days or so...
