We had the pleasure of having a C7 in the Studio recently, and our man Chris "Mook" Gargano did a New Car Prep on it. I'll share a few before/after pictures with you here, but you can find the entire write up over on our forums here:

Hey Nick.....is plausible to color sand our G8's? Removing the factory orange peel?

Nice!

Saw my first new Vette on the street today. Cyber Grey with beige interior. Z-51 with chrome wheels. I thought it was much more busy in person.... too many conflicting angles... top was out and just didn't look as good as I expected, with top out and that little rear window. Spoiler looked added on and as if it shouldn't have been there. Disappointed.....

It is certainly an option, but it's a very in depth process to do correctly, and not for everyone.

A paint thickness gauge is a must-have for any kind of wide-spread sanding because if you spend just a few seconds too long in one area, you risk going too deeply and taking off too much clear.

If you're comfortable with the whole wetsanding/polishing process, then fire away! It's a messy job, but removing the factory orange peel is awfully gratifying when finished.

Just be sure to have all the necessary tools and proceed with caution. One wrong move and you'll be re-spraying the panel or entire car.

Thanks Nick! Im not a skilled guy with a buffer but willing to do the sanding with 1500 2000 sandpaper. Youre not kidding - its a mess!

So what is the paint thickness threshold Nick?

You can polish a new car DOZENS of times over again with an orbital or DA machine and you won't have any issues with getting through the clear coat. On a typical Corvette, there is a LOT of clear sprayed on them.

Apologies -- what I meant to ask is -- what is the paint thickness threshold for color sanding?

Nice work. Do you have a shop in wyoming? (noticed the vette plates)

No, this customer drove down to our HQ to have the job done.
