Does this only work with Alpine units? No....but the kit is designed to work with an 8" screen. If you go away from the Alpine head unit with 8" screen then you may have gaps around the edges and possible other ugly stuff happening.

There is a different Alpine fitting kit currently being planned which is much more universal. It will be double DIN and to suit 7" screen.

This caught my attention since the 7" screen size is very plentiful over here for a fraction of the cost of the 8" screen units. Any idea on a time frame with this one?

Not sure if it has been asked yet or not but when engaging night time driving mode, would the new head unit be wired up so that the screen goes off like the factory setup? I did a quick scan but didn't see that mentioned anywhere.

That looks very very very much like the G8 Designs install kit with the Folick HVAC controller. Just saying. I have the above stated in my G8 with a Pioneer head unit. Works great, and the Folick works great as well. About the same cost too. The Folick alone is about 400. I think 350 or so for the G8 Designs kit.

Not meaning to step on any toes.... Just stating facts.
