I think my G8's battery is on its last leg. What are some of the better options for us?

I just changed mine. Thats what I get for it being a garage queen. Only lasted 4 years,

I ended up purchasing a battery from Carquest. Its their premium platinum battery. It is 800 CCA and has a 7 year warranty. I only paid 145.00.

Its made in the USA and is made by EastPenn.

I second Curts opinion, it seems to have worked for mine too!

Lol - let it be known that I have driven it way more this year. Just no quarter mile runs yet, but that will change when the cooler weather sets in :)

Thanks!!! I'll have to check them out. Price sounds pretty good too.

I made a list of the 94R/H7 AGM batteries the other day after researching other batteries for the minivan. Since I don't plan to use a wet cell battery in the G8, I didn't bother looking at them. Unfortunately, the Consumer Reports battery comparison from a few years ago didn't include 94R or H7 groups, but it's a decent read for other battery groups for other vehicles.

DieHard 50793
Duralast H7-AGM
Advance Auto Parts/Autocraft H7-AGM
There is a fair chance that all the above are actually the same battery made by Johnson Controls.

Exide Edge FP-AGML4/94R. This is the only one on this list with a 4 year warranty; others have 3 yr. It's the most expensive too.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the AGM batteries.

Just checked consumer reports for the latest and greatest, again no 94R or H7 ratings, but in the other groups:
Diehard Advancec Gold in 2 categories
Diehard Gold one category
Everstart Maxx 2 categories
Interstate Mega-Tron II in one

I installed the optima yellow in my G8 last year and am very happy with it so far. Used optima's in all of my vehicles in the last 15+ years without issue. Some say quality has changed but I haven't seen it.
Install did require altering the hold down bracket but nothing that I didn't accomplish in 15-20 minutes.

The East Penn batteries would be my first choice. I didn't have access to one though and went with my second choice the Exide Edge. Don't buy one over a couple of months old that's been sitting on the shelf. Local major chain had two on the shelf that were over a year old.

Very good point.

When I purchased my Platinum from car quest they ordered one and got it the next day.
They did not stock big batteries like that at their location.

I just installed the Walmart H7 Everstart which is manufactured by Johnson Controls. It was $139.00. Charged it fully before connecting it. Initially I was concerned because engineering mode indicated % of charge of .7% for the entire day. Also, voltage fluctuated to 15+ but the next morning all was back to normal. Charge 75% and volts @ 14.5 while running. Everstarts have a 3 year full replacement followed 2 years pro-rated replacement.

Did a Walmart ever start too. I see they went up in price (was $120). All the auto stores were selling at $160.

First day my voltage stayed up also even though I drove it for hours. But others said the same happened to them and no long term effects apparently. Must be the on board brain getting comfortable with the new battery.

Thanks guys...I hadn't even thought about Wally world having one.

Great point on not getting one that's been sitting around for a while. I'll keep that in mind.

Yeah, had to go to another Walmart to find a fresh one too.

I ended up going with the Duralast H7-AGM, but damn it was hard to find one. You can't trust the online inventory status. Felt like I was on a wild goose chase for 22 LR ammo...

It seems to be doing good so far.

Thanks to all that chimed in.

Have to replace the battery after almost 6 years. I see the recommendations here on batteris. Any part numbers for batteries that don't require battery tray/hold down modifications?
Thanks in advance

See my post above yours. My new battery did not require any battery tray mods. It was a direct bolt in like the factory.

I just had the Interstate 94R/H7 installed. Since my vehicle is a 2008, that battery was five years old already. Recently I had two electrical incidents springs up, one, the car was completely disabled one day (not even the interior lights would come on when opening the door) and I had to be jump started, and two, I had a Check Engine light this past week. I am hoping that both were the result of a battery that was going bad.

If you had an AGM battery im surprised it went bad already. AGMs have been in the aviation/military for a while partly because of their durability.
