Audio experts, I need some advice as I know nothing about car audio. I am looking at replacing my factory speakers with Hertz DSK165 front/ DCX165 rear and want to know if these will be adequately powered by the factory head unit or if I should get an amp to get their full potential. The local audio store claims they will sound fine without an amp, but I want to hear what the audio experts on this forum think. I listened to them at the store powered by a 50w head unit and they sounded pretty clear, will they sound better amp'd? I just thought it was a little strange that the guy wasn't trying to sell me more stuff. What do y'all think the best way to go with this is? Thanks in advance for your input!

I have the ESK165s and ESK165Ls with HT28s in the dash.
You have no idea how much these speakers are underrated in terms of power capability.
I would strongly suggest throwing an amp on them. But should be "sufficient" with the factory amp.

Thanks for the response. What do you mean by "underrated in terms of power capability", That they sound good with much less power than a comparable speaker? If I did amp them, what sort of amp do you think would really make these sound great, and would I still be able to utilize the stock subs?

I mean, They'll be able to handle more power than what they're rated for. These things beg to be fed with power.
Myself, I'm running a Phoenix Gold RX600.5 (5 channel) to run my entire car, all speakers and subs with an Audison Bit Ten D DSP.
Simply amazing and not even half the power of what the speakers are rated to handle.

I went ahead and put them in without an amp and they sound pretty damn good. I put HushMat in the doors too. Will definitely amp them when I put in a sub, as it does feel like they want more power.

Give them 75-125 watts and watch your face melt into your lap.
