I know it can be done as i've seen it on a G8. Do you have any idea what parts are needed and how much the costs would be.
Thanks!

Yeah that price isn't bad at all... not sure what it takes though :(
Maybe with some pictures of the connector or something. I IMed the guy I knew who did it so we'll see what he says.

So are the connectors there in the G8 for plug and play?
G8-SSV
02-12-2009, 06:31 PM
nope... G8 harness does not contain any wires or connectors for courtesy lighting which makes those lights very useless. I tried that route before and wasn't able to source connectors......

Thats easy, change the connector. Since its not factory and you have to tie it in anyways, the connector is pretty much useless.

The Set of 2 front footwell lights he's referring to is actually two sockets and the male connector is not a part that can be separated from it. You can find an easier solution in your local pep boys store.

all I did is go to pep boys for a set of led lights(triple pods) and install 'em under the front seats for the rear and under the dash and glove box for the front.self adhesive, easy install tapped into the curcuit that turns them on whenever the interior lights go on
and they look sick!

When you say sick is that good? Sorry, I'm pretty old and not up with the latest slang. Also, can you show where you hooked into that circuit?

yeah, they look great! all of my floor area is red at night whenever the dome light is on.
I just tapped into the wire that was hot when the door was open.

There is also a way to wire the lights so that they dim out with the dome when the doors are closed. I will try and post a DIY later.

AWESOME.
I want to set my G8 up so that I have white lights tied into the dome light that dim with the theater lighting and turn on at entry and egress.
I want to put in a second set that are red/amber and be able to turn them on and off. I want these to be very dim, to provide ambient cabin lighting at night.
When my switch for the glove box light comes in I'm going to take a look at it and see if there is some way to mount it so that you can add a light to the center console that comes on when the lid is open. I will probably put an amber light in there so that it isn't blinding in the cabin when you open it at night.

come on... some of you who bought that shop manual should post the wiring diagrams for us. :) Would make this a lot easier.

Are these a plug and play install? I know the glovebox light is, but I think I read in another thread the under door lights had no wiring to the location.
Ignition Switch
92188710 Bulb
Where does this bulb go? Does it light up the key slot?

Glovebox light parts above are a complete P&P solution.
All other parts shown above are just bits and pieces that might help somebody who is working on something.
The underdoor courtesy lights will not work simply by buying new door harnesses, this however has not stopped people from still working on something else which could make use of the courtesy lamps and bulbs.
People are installing footwell lights and doing their own wiring...again the GM lamp and bulb parts might be useful to those people.
The bulb for the ignition switch lives in behind the circular ring around the key slot.

Thanks for the part numbers. Where can we order them from? I tried plugging some part numbers in to GM websites, but they don't come up. I'd like to try the footwell lights, and the center console light.

These parts are useless to buy because the G8 does not have the wiring and sockets in place to accept the lamp. More expensive cars from Holden have the footwell sockets and wiring as part of their factory Instrument Panel Harness, but not the G8.
The bare sockets (for a DIY install) used to be available to buy under a very old Part No (9936420)....but not anymore. Sockets are now extinct.

OK, I need to bookmark this thread and come back with some pics in my G8. I have wiring harnesses on both sides under the kick panels (when removed) that have nothing plugged into them. They sure look like the footwell light connectors would plug and play into them. One is on the passenger side, the other on the driver, they are both positioned outboard on each respective side. Harness with nothing plugged in, wiring attached to harness - no terminator on the end of the plugs.
If not for lighting, what else could they be for?

Not sure.
When you investigate further document the wire colours, which may help.
eg:
Left; white wire with blue trace & pink wire.
Right; purple wire with orange trace & yellow wire with black trace.

FYI all...those brown sockets look identical [to me, anyway] like the sockets Autometer uses for gauge lighting. 194 bulb.
I have some i'll snap a pic of...they are generic pieces from any good terminal supply, twist to lock type.
Edit - link...I knew they looked familiar.

Well, the photos suck but here they are.
It start to snow on me while I was out doing this so it became a bit of a rush job. Nothing but bad news really. There is only one pin in the connector. I took a Volt meter to it, door closed, door open, ignition on no voltage at all (kind of figured with only one pin.
The pics attached show the connector I'm talking about. It if the white vent to the right to a rather complicated looking set of harnesses. I could not pull it down to tell you what colored wires are attached, there are a lot of them though (I would guess six feeling around).
Pics (crappy) attached. Any ideas?

I am not being a smartass... did you have the negative pin of your voltmeter grounded while testing those things?

Of course.
The one pin was as cold as a North Dakota winter.
