I know many have seen people who have added/upgraded cams or are considering the upgrade. The only thing i have not seen discussed is if there is any additional maintenance that needs to be performed at x intervals? Also would this depend on driving habits, and is there a quick way to check to see when its needed?

experts please step in :)

No maint. Just change oil as you have been and thats it. Now if its a big cam you may set up a interval after talking with the valve spring manufacturer on when is a safe interval to inspect/replace.

thats good to know that there should be no additional maint. on a mild cam, so the stage II guys should check with spring manufacturer

Even with the stage II I wouldnt worry about springs unless it was being raced all the time.

Even on a .595/.598 lift cam w/ .660 springs, I was told to check the springs @ 20-30k miles, so agreeing w/ Charlie, that's the only thing.

What do you look for in the worn springs? Do you have to run some pressure test on them or something?

I know we have numerous people that have over 75K miles on our .690 lift springs, even with cams that are .50+ lift... good parts just last a long time. It's all in the quality :D but checking them about every 30k is usually recommended.

Yes there are spring testers. I never test, I change. For me thats easy though.

Sounds like you have a quick change tool there Charlie. I made one on a manual lathe up @ work, exact to the ones they sell on ls1tech and Crane's model.
