What would be the pros and cons of going from a 19" to a 18" wheel.......

Pro's would be more tire choices, wheels too I think. Slightly lower prices.

Seems the guys running 18's get better 60' times as well.

More tire, less wheel! Like the 'old days'. That's why I chose 18's over 19's. Gosh remember when 14's were stock on cars, like on my 1980 Grand Prix. Man....

WEIGHT!

That's the big gain right there and like MOS says... You can see it in the 60' on the track.

Less wheel less weight. More wheel more weight.

An expensive set of forged aluminum wheels can really help a ton!

I think I was told once that for every pound or rotational mass you remove is like removing 7 pounds of static weight.:)

The weights are close depending on wheels. Cheaper tires for sure! DRs for 18s too.

So would this work
Front

18x8.5 5-120 with 35 - 45 mm offset
245/40/18 tires

Rear
18x9.5 5-120 40 to 50 mm offset
275/30/18 tires

I would err on the side of caution, and add 5 mm to your minimum offset numbers.

If you check my first post on 285-19's for my G8, I compared them to my Shuk Wr-1 17's on my GTO. BIG UNSPRUNG WEIGHT SAVINGS. And... those 17's will work on G8 with hubrings, as they have 40 offset on front. Rears are 9" wide, with 275's and 48 offset. Speedo will only be off about the same as stock GTO with stock wheels and tires. And smaller diameter will lower effective rear end ratio, which should mean even quicker starts.
