So Ive had my G8 for about 7 months now. HID's was the fist thing I did I drilled the wholes on the headlight cap. Never had any issues untill like the last month. At first I noticed it when I was washing my car one day, the driver side headlight fogged up, but then hours later went away. And now for the last week I have been riding around like this!! Now there is actually water in there, so idk how its getting in there. Im sure its not thru the back because it had never hapenned before and I was my car every weekend! Yesterday it was parked directlyy on sunlight and it didnt go away. I looked up older threads and google but didnt find anything that would help! Anyone experience this or knows how to fix it? Can the headlight be taken apart and resealed? Any input helps. Thanks for looking.

After a few taps water dripped down..

Did you use silicone when put the grommet in the to dust cap. Silicome might have cracked and allowed water inside. Might try a shop vac to suck out the waterand then heat with a hair drier to finish it off.

You have been lucky then, should of had condensation issues from the start.

Really? Dang...well thanks. Im going to try to get that water out then I will seal them up. Regular silicone will work?

Yep regular will work.

Thanks for the info! Gonna see if I can get all the water out then seal them up! Hope I can save the head light, wouldn't wanna have to buy another one :(

Anyone else feel free to chime in on their experience

I had to re silicone mine once after installing HID's. there is also an o-ring on the cap that could be bad

Keep in mind you need to get all the moisture out of there. Otherwise you might just seal up humidity in it when you put the sealant on.

Yea...guess im going to have to remove the bumper cover to remove the headlight and drain it completely for a couple of days

remember there is supposed to be air in there. So I wouldn't go to extremes.

IIRC there is a drain hole on the bottom of the assembly, other than the covers sealing up the opening. As mentioned there is a gasket on the covers that might have dried out on you. or your silicone might have failed.

Meanwhile on the drying - remember there is air in the housing and the condensation is in the housing and not in your projector. If you don't have HID high beams - you can dry the housings out by just driving around with your highbeams on for a while. Odd looking perhaps - but the heat and air movement will dry out the housing without you having to take them out. Or - on your next warm day they will dry out on their own.

Occasionally I still get some condensation in mine - I never siliconed up the gromets - and they dry out in rather short order. Causes me no issues in the last year + that I've had my HID's

That's not 100% true but pretty close. The head lights are not "sealed" most headlights will have a membrane vent in them to allow condensation to escape. this will happen normally with just changes in the ambiant temps. Now that vent is not made to allow that kind of water to escape. the best thing to do is to remove as much water as possible then try to keep your head lights on as much as possible to try and evaporate the condensation. and allow the vapor to pass through the vent.

Sorry I didn't see there was a second page to this post my reply was basically a duplicate from Napalm

OH because I didn't expalain.

HID bulbs don't really get hot. So if you have HID High Beams - they won't really heat the air and help dry out the housing like a standard incandescent bulb will do.

Thanks for all the info! I have regular high beams will drive with them.

the humidity in your area is also rather high right now I assume.

I find I still in the spring months with the humidity is high and the temps swing 20+ degrees every night. Usually goes away quickly in the mornings.

Had the same problems with the HIDs on my GTO until I siliconed around the rubber grommet on the back of the headlight. I siliconed the G8 from the start when I installed HIDs, and have never had this problem.

Will be doing that this weeked, hopefully itll fix it up. If not, the headligh is $230 new from dealership and found one for $150 from a salvage yard.

be carefull with that. did you silicone in the wires in the gromet? Also if (when) that bulb fails you will have to cut that silocone out to change them.

The taillights in my '98 Grand Prix filled up with water. I just topped them off, added fish and called it a day.

In all seriousness, the other thing to make sure is that any wires approach from the bottom, so water can't run down a wire into the lamp housing... Make sense?
