Hey guys,

Im gonna pull the heads off my L98 engine and upgrade the head gaskets and head bolts, as ill be installing a cam and supercharger anyway, but im having difficulty finding info on head gaskets.
The standard gasket on the L98 has a 4 inch bore and is 0.054" thick, but the nearest Cometic gasket has a 4.060" bore (which is fine), but its 0.051" thick which will increase compression and screw up my push rod length. Or is 0.003" nothing to worry about?

Can anyone over there offer any advice on which upgraded head gaskets theyre using for a 4" bore and 0.054" thickness?

Thanks,

Shaun.

What about LS9's?

Shaun,
Your cylinder bore will be 4.000" stock.
12589227 advertised for LS2 & L76 will suit LS up to 4.020" maximum bore
12610046 advertised for LS3 & L92 will suit LS up to 4.080" maximum bore
Here's info on LS9 (factory boosted) head gasket....up to 4.080" maximum bore

Ignore the differences between 0.051 & 0.054, it's insignificant. (Sometimes companies quote compressed thickness and othertime it's thickness straight out of the bag).
Off the shelf pushrods come in ranges of 0.025" centered around 7.400".....so just select the best hardware you can, and at the end use a pushrod length tester to determine the best length to buy.

Ok , thanks Paul. I've ordered all the pats from Greg, but I've decided to get a camshaft package locally from VCM. That way all the parts are matched, tried and tested.
Still interested in the hsv bare pod by the way.

Yup it's not slipped my memory. There was one piece I didn't know which direction to go with yours, but today I went and looked at about 100 Series2 and E3's and have now seen the light Brother. Should be able to price it all up early in the new week.

So if I'm reading this correctly then the LS9 gasket (12622033) is the way to go for boosted applications and the tiny bit bigger bore size is a non issue? Yes..

Yeah, apparently the slightly bigger bore size is a non issue as the gasket squashes when torqued up anyway.

I also recommend ls9 head gaskets for boosted engines.

LS9 head gaskets work great and you can not go wrong with cometic gaskets either.
