Recently I ordered some HID headlights from Mike @ JeTTTStream (http://forum.grrrr8.net/forumdisplay.php?f=151). During my conversations with him about what type to get etc. we started talking about the little 12v Flashlights he also sells. Always a sucker for a cool new flashlight (don't ask lol) I decided to order one as well.

They come in multiple colors as you can see here:

Mike said he could get them engraved and I decided that having a 'Pontiac G8' engraved one would be the way to go in Black to match my car. Unfortunately there seemed to have been a mixup with mike's supplier so he had an unengraved one which I was still fine with (at least it was still black & not pink ;) )

Mike however wasn't happy since I had requested the engraved version and when he got some in insisted that we'd do a swap. Since I had already taken the light out of the packaging etc I felt it wouldn't be right so I decided to keep the 'plain' version. Serious kudos to Mike though to make sure that I was satisfied with my purchase and got what I wanted!

The actual light was smaller than I imagined it to be. For some reason I thought it would've been a little longer and wider (more like a 'C' battery) but the size actually is just right. It comes with a little clip-on adapter piece you must put on if you want charge it in your 12V socket in the car. Here's a picture of the items and a Sharpie for size reference (excuse the crappy picture quality - taken with a cellphone)

You turn the light on/off by simply turning the front housing. When charging a red LED comes on to notify you it's charging. It actually blends in with the rest of the gauges/radio etc quite well! (look underneath the 'auto' A/C Control button)

My only issue so far with the light is that I noticed a few times as I put the light in the 12v Socket the light wouldn't come on so I had to jiggle it just a little to lign up right.

As far as the actual light output i was simply amazed how much such a little flashlight can put out! I had to put out the garbage the other night and it was pitch black so I figured it'd be a good test. The light it emits is a bright white and I could see clearly quite a significant distance away(30+ yards). When shining it straight down at my feet it almost seemed like it was daytime! And unlike a normal flashlight it doesn't have the 'ring of darkness' in the middle of the light output.

It definitely makes me glad to think that i now have an emergency flashlight at hand whenever i need it when in the car and when leaving the car it's so small that it easily fits in a coat or pant pocket. If nothing else it's great for finding change underneath the seats ;)

I would highly recommend this item to anyone wanting to have a easy to carry and no hassle flashlight available to them when travelling. And for those that don't - it's just plain cool! ;)

If you're interested in one of these great little must-have flashlights contact Mike (JeTTTStream), or check out this thread (http://forum.grrrr8.net/showthread.php?t=2533) for more information - they're well worth it!

Wow!!

Thanks Steve for such a nicely detailed review!

There is a quick plug for the product in Road & Track page 104 for March 2009 (although listed at $29)...heh

:)

I have these in everyone of my cars/trucks, even the family has jumped on the bandwagon!

I actually have started doing the custom engraving for companies for corporate giveaways as well!

Thanks again! Another great reason this is one of the premier web forums out there!

I think the big question is whether or not you can turn it into a burning laser, and if so, would the seller consider selling modified units at the buyers peril >=)
