View Full Version : ecm / bcm flashing questions.. manual conversion problems

so my project is a manual conversion.
the car has been done with all the trans and 100% done with the hardware.
the problem is theft deterrent and engine immobilizer and all that crap.
what i did was flash in a modded tune from the stock one but still needed to see the tcm
next pat g sent one with a holden trans segment that one could not see the bcm
the next idea is to flash the car as a gxp using 2009.5 ecm and bcm then modding them to for the l76 and the bcm side.
im looking for input from the electronics experts out there.
-will the bcm from a 2009.5 run my 2008 gt?
-can i transfer the bcm tables(or what ever there called) to the new one?
-can the 2008 bcm work with the other ecm?
this was my only concern when starting the project.
thanks for looking

You'll need me to build a custom BCM calibration for your car.

I am stuck in the same place and will need to make sure all of the electronics work. We both have 2008s if that helps.

let me know i emailed you today about it.
you thinking you can make it wirk with the one i got and the holden trans segment or the gxp ecm flash and my stock settings?

would it work if we just got a BCM from a M6 GXP or do they have to be linked via VIN or something?

Unfortunately no there were many electronics changes between 08/09 and 09.5 plus you are correct there is the vin mismatch issue.

they have to be linked. not sure if it will work from a bench or if they have to be connected and flashed in the car.
im about to fit a 4 barrel carburetor on there and use an e-rod harness for spark. haha

I wonder if I could sweet talk my GM dealer into reprogramming the ECU and BCM with a manual GXP tune and to link it to my VIN.

09.5 has different hardware flashing it will brick the modules. Would also set tamper flags with other modules in the car.

need 2009.5 ecm/bcm
dealer can flash it as a gxp vin but i dont know whats different in the program,body,signel....ect
only really one way to find out and my car is 1600 miles away taking up space
greg can flash bcms and is working on flashing ecms maybe if your around long enough well try that on yours.
rember you will have to do clutch learn and break relearn at the dealer unless we can get a tech 2 scan tool.
and i think the engine imoblizer will need redone.
also was thinking of doing a full holden flash with our ecm/bcm but god only knows whats diff in the bodys of the cars. so i think gxp will be best.

They won't be able to do that.
They would be able to flash a 2009.5 ECM and your BCM to a GXP vin but they wouldn't be able to change the vin to match yours. That is all up to Chris. It should be a pretty easy thing for him to do, and the BCM is pretty easy to swap/remove from the car.
Yea I can OEM flash BCM's, but not much more than that.

Grrr... Starting to understand why the other guy just left the TCM connected to the car...
Greg, so do I need a GXP ECM too? I was under the impression that the actual ECU was the same. Of course, I was under the impression the Camaro trans would work too and look where that got me.
Will, I don't know if this is going to get done either. I also am leaving the country soon so I figure "We" have about 2-3 weeks to get this done or the entire community is going to have to wait for one of us to get back from our deployments.

I'm talking about making a custom BCM running their correct os and such for a manual which shouldn't be a big deal. Then tackle the ECM I'd like to do it on the older hardware it would be a challenge but way cool;)

But it would be easier for people wanting to do the conversion after us to just add the cost of the GXP ECU to the mix and tune it all at one time.

Yes that would be best. That way the swap wouldn't need a new ECM.
I'm still not sure why what issues are being had other than cruise control not working. There are a few guys that were able to completely remove the TCM and the car is programmed as a manual with a Holden ECM OS on the 2008/2009 E38.

Will said the car wouldn't start as it was kicking in the anti-theft controls. But since all the cool kids are online, he'll probably pipe up in a minute. We should have a chat feature on this board :D

And have it done by this weekend ;) Any chance this is due to a tuning feature? The guy on the other board who did the conversion used HPTuners to flash the ECM. I would think PatG would have this figured out but could this be a difference between HPT and Autocal?

Lets get the BCM figured out then tackle the ECM it's counter productive to do both right now I think it will make the ECM side that much easier.

pat sent a tune with a holden trans segment in it. kinda like a cross bread it seemed to me. at that point the car was not seeing the bcm.
now it gets me to think if something in the bcm was holden talk will it see it then?
perhaps if the bcm says things like g'day perhaps it will "mate" with the ecm.

Yes Chris both of them are '08 early '09. Infact all the inquiries I've had in the swap have been the older versions.

Quick hijack, I have an 09 GT that has a tune on it, no idea what it is all about but I want the ECM flashed back to OEM. What is the best, easiest, cheapest way to do this?
Should I have the dealer do it when they do the airbag update?
Probably run a cortex until the new owner has $$$ for a real tune, I already have a cortex for him to use.

Got a current price? So I know what to tell customers that ask.

This it the building block and I think it might work with the holden segment swap but I'm not sure yet. Having this correct will make the ECM side of things MUCH easier to figure out (I have a feeling the cars may start right away with the changes actually). Figure for others $199 these guys will get special pricing since they were the catalyst.

OK pricing is what I figured.
Can one drive to the dealer after installing the BCM and still needing the BPP learn? I didn't try to move the car after I got my BCM from you.

Yes you can (if it will start obviously!) the $199 is the programming not including a new BCM which I can supply if needed. If one wanted some of the other options, DRL delete lighting changes etc I'd be happy to throw that in while I'm in there.

Yes. Working with Chris but I just need to take the BCM out of the car and send it to him. Going to prepay for some quick shipping so hopefully I will be able to work on it next week. I am off next week and this is one of the projects I need to get done.

Well Chris seems to have it figured out but it has not been tested.
I am away from my car and will not be able to finish figuring it out until October.

So I'm about a week from getting back home. Hooray! Sending the BCM off for a refresh is the first job. Then I'll spend the week putting the car back together while I wait for the BCM. :D
