--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello all,
I just want you all to know that I do NOT have a G8. Please let me explain, I am building a resto-mod 69 GTO protouring car. I of course am updating everything, however unlike others I will not be using modern GTO parts. That car was a travesty!. I intend to use as many G8 parts as I can, after all the G8 was the last great Pontiac! I am looking to buy a salvage G8 GT or GXP. I intend to use the engine, trans, and most of the interior. If I can find a GXP I will be using the brakes as well. I plan on running an intercooled 72mm Turbonetics turbo with the engine or a twin turbo setup. I have a bunch of questions and who better than to ask but the people who have done most of this already. I am looking for what works, what doesnt work, what to expect, what to watch for, etc. I will def need some dimensions for the dash. I am in Afghanistan with the Army right now so all the info I need will have to come from other people. I am including a picture of my GTO and a link to the build thread on the other site. Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated and I look forward to hearing from you.
If any of you could help me out by giving me dimensions of a G8 dash. I need the width, height, and depth. I also need the width of the door pannels. I think the G8 dimension may be similiar to the 69 GTO.

Stay safe over here man. Project sounds like a cool idea hope it comes together for you.
I think there is a guy who has a few salvage titles TailG8er- (Jay) that might chime in if he still has them or a line on them.

Thanks guys! I have alot of work into it already, I was going to use a LY6/6l90 truck setup that i picked up but to piece it all together and get it to work with the interior electrical would be a nightmare. Ill keep a look out for TailG8er, if he has a whole car I would make an offer. I have found a few so far but it will be awhile until I am back so I have to be patient.

Just PM him, easy to do.
Where are you located?
I know Rockstar did up a 68 or 69.
I considered some G8 pieces for my LeMans [a 71] but the car seems too nice to do much to aside from bolt ons...since I have a G8 and the 71, I have references if needed.

My car is in paint in San Diego, but I am In Afghanistan right now. Rockstar did a 68GTO awhile back, but they used all new GTO parts. I think its a good idea but I am not a fan of the new GTOs. The only thing I like about the new GTOs other than drive train is the seats, which are very comfortable. That is why I want to use a G8 drivetrain and most of the interior with GTO seats. The interior will be almost all deep red lether.IF you can give me a few key dimenions it would be awesome. I need the width of a the interior of the car, from door pannel to door pannel. The width of the dash, and the depth of the dash. Last I would need is the length of the door pannels. I would need the same measurements from the Lemans and G8. I know it was close but I dont know how close. I have a bunch of pics that I never even got to post because I was soo busy before I left. There is a new rendering but I havent recieved it from the desgner yet. Once I have time I will post more pics here. Thanks and let me know on the dimensions!

The drive trains are so similiar, the only real difference is the 6 speed auto tranny. I have both, and If I were going to cut one up to make a custom, it would be the GTO. You're right...better seats, (slightly) less computer interface, worse suspension. The G8 GT is still saddled with DOD, so that will require mods to get rid of. The LS2 had cathedral port heads, so the edge goes to G8 there.
In the end...just gotta go with one. Good luck.

I looked at a GTO drivetrain but I was not impressed what people were asking for them vs what they are good for. I really liked the L92 style heads and their flow charecteristics. I fell in love with the concept of a 6 speed trans the day I found out they existed years ago. The interior is a lot nicer in the G8s too more stylish! The DOD, thats an easy fix for what you get with the L76.

I won't be at any of my cars until May at this point where I could actually move them to get measurements.

Welcome! I have the rear door panels off on my G8 so I can give you a few measurements tommorrow. I always liked the lemans + GTO's but I was a "camaro" guy in the day. Stay safe.

I took a few measurements for you. I had the rear shelf trim off so I'll start there.
The front edge is straight and 54 1/2" wide(approx 51" visible) and the back edge is curved 45" wide(approx 43 1/2" visible). The widest point is 21 1/2" narrowing to 19" on each side. some extra could be trimmed off each side and rear if needed.
The car width is 65 1/2" rear door metal to metal. Rear door skin top straight edge is 33 1/2" wide. Goes down on the front edge at approx. 3 degrees forward angle 24 1/4" . Bottom edge is straight back to the rear 13 1/2" and then there is multiple angles back up to the rear of the top edge. Should be enough to see if there is any hope of them fitting.
I'll take some dash measurements next.
Sounds like a cool project. Should be a sweet ride when it's all done.
