upon start up, sounds like popcorn

Just happend only on startup
I was able to hear engine before shutdown last time it ran and wasnt making the noise. A few hours after I went to start it up and it sounded like pop corn.. not pop..pop..pop..pop, more like pop.......pop pop......pop. very inconsistant, doesnt change with rpm and I was able to notice belt and tensioner would tense up every time it happend. let engine run and when it warmed up it seemed to go away.

Have you tried removing the AC belt and seeing if it still does it?

Just removed serp belt, spun everything by hand, seems to be the alternator, I can get sound out of it when manually turning.

Cool! Time for a new one me thinks! That's fairly easy and cost effective to do so that's a positive!
