I'm working on a project trying to integrate my data logger into the CAN/OBD port on the G8. The software I use for the data logger has the ability to analyze raw CAN data but I need to use a DBC file (aka. CANdb) to "decode" the parameters. Once I know the variables I can configure the data logger to decode the CAN data in real-time (which would be awesome). Here's some info on what I'm working with (http://www.race-technology.com/wiki/index.php/RTAnalysisManagingData/ManagingCANVariables).
This is outside my knowledge, but figured we have some smart folks around here. Anyone have a clue what I'm talking about? Is there someplace I can get a DBC file for the G8? for any GM vehicle (Corvette or Camaro maybe)?

There are a few open source CAN scanners so you might be able find the info in there.

I tried running a config file for a LS3 Corvette but none of the variables look to be decoded in real time. Next step is trying to log some raw data from the CAN/OBD for later analysis... anyone with connections to GM/Holden who can get/make a DBC file?
Looking at another company's data logger they have a config (in their own proprietary format) for the Holden Commodor & VXR8 to pull some parameters (Engine RPM, Butterfly Angle, Throttle Pedal, MAP Sensor, Wheel Speeds, Steering angle, Brake pressure).

Try finding a file for a 2008-2009 LS7 Corvette. It uses the same ECM as your G8 or a 2008 LS3 vette. The newer ones changed ECM's so that might be your problem.

Very good to know, thanks! Should make getting things to work a bit easier (since I'd expect Corvette owners to have done some of the work already). The company just released their new software today, so I don't have to do real-time conversion (rather I can log once and then try all sorts of different configs to decode it).
