I may have to take a vacation day or 2 and head to the GM Tech Center in Warren, MI (Metro Detroit).

It would be cool to see some G8 people there......

I've never been to one of these events before. Do you get to drive your own car on any set up corses there?

What are some of the events....?

It's basically a traveling car show where you participate. You'll see tons of sponsors there with loads of give aways. Then they pack up and head out in caravan to the next location. I believe the real "challenges" take place on the last 2 days at bristol speed way. You can probably find some footage from it on youtube/google vids

I've been on 4 power tours, I've not done the full long haul, usually 2-3 stops. . I went on part of it last year again and there are some crazy mofo's that are out there. Open street rods with no tops, rust buckets, prostreet, protouring, trucks, etc. If you want to get in on a dyno pull you can do that too. Be prepared as it always rains, but, all in all its a bunch of fun and you'll see some of the finest rides in America. Someone is always bringing out a new car they've been working on and usually there is a celeb or two. Last year Leno was on tour and GM brought out 50 cents G8 427. It was pretty neat, but, really nothing special. Just thought I'd chime in for anyone who hasn't been on one before. Get your Motels ahead of time, after all there will be about 2500 long haulers, plus at every stop there will be an additional 1000 rides. Just be patient, it takes a while to get into some of the venues and be careful.

I doesn't look like I'll be able to get any time off of work around then, but I'll definitely be at the Racine, WI stop. That's pretty much right in the middle of where I live and where I work so I'll be there rain or shine to check out the rides.

HOLY COW. Sooooo many of the rooms are booked. Atleast, all the non smoking rooms. I was able to find 3 Comfort inns in Dayton, Somerset and Bristol that can sleep 4 (2 queens). So I suggest you guys get on the horn and get to bookin. Who ever's rooming with me must have :boobies:

Dear G8 Ray,

With the 2009 HOT ROD Power TourŪ presented by GM Performance Division only three weeks away, the staffs of HOT ROD Magazine and Family Events are making final preparations and plans in accordance with a late-venue change.

HOT ROD Magazine and the Detroit Convention and Visitors Bureau are pleased to announce a new location for the Tuesday, June 9th stop of the HOT ROD Magazine Power TourŪ in Detroit. The new venue will be Metro Beach Metropark, a 770-acre park on Lake St. Clair located east of Mt. Clemens in Macomb County.

While Power Tour was scheduled to stop at the General Motors Warren Technical Center on Tuesday, June 9th, GM has decided not to host the stop on the tour, so that their employees can remain focused on restructuring GM for success in the future. Our friends at GM sincerely regret the timing of this decision.

"Over the past 15 years, we've learned that even with the best planning and attention to details, there will always be surprises with Power Tour," said Jerry Pitt, Publisher of HOT ROD Magazine. "Thanks to the efforts of our hardworking team and our partners at the Detroit Convention and Visitors Bureau we were able to find an excellent location in close proximity to the GM Technical Center in Warren. No hotel accommodation changes will be necessary as the new venue, Metro Beach Metropark, is less than 22 miles from the GM Technical Center."

This 770-acre park situated on a peninsula on Lake St. Clair is located east of Mt. Clemens, MI in Macomb County. With an ample parking facility, the nature preserve offers more than seven miles of shore line. Additionally, with easy access from I-94 from exit 236, the three-mile drive east on Metro Parkway (16 Mile Road) leads into the park's entrance.

Additionally, the City of Warren has planned an after-hours cruise in Warren, Michigan in close proximity to the hotel accommodations.

HOT ROD will be mailing participant confirmation letters this week that include all route directions including the route to the new venue. The forums at HOTROD.com will also provide real-time answers to participant and spectator questions.

Keep informed as we provide additional information at www.hotrod.com.

Most locations (except last two stops) still have hotels via Hotwire. I booked several very nice 4 star hotels - hilton, hyatt, etc... - less than 100 a night. Much better than the Hot Rod tour sponsored hotels!

I'll be at the South Bend stop on Monday, likely after 4 unless I can get off of work. John Shesky is supposed to be there with his twin turbo G8 as well, most will recognize this car as the SEMA granitelli (sp) car!

So a bunch of the Power tour rides on their way down to Dayton, on my way up to Livernois. Only saw one Panther Black G8 though. If any of you happen to see the stretched rust colored wagon, please take a pic of it and post. My son and I dubbed it the turd, but my wife missed it! Thanks! I hope you guys had a safe trip!
