Looking for where this vent hose goes to. Does it connect to something or is it just left open?

Ok but where does it go? I found it laying against the trans loose. Is it supposed to connect to something? I would think it should be secured up high on the trans or motor.
That pic is from the internet, not my trans.

That should help, thanks again Paul.
On another note do I need instructions for installing those gauges you sent me? I see there is a plug that needs to be wired in, any specifics for doing that?
I just got a shipping notification for the new gauge faces.

Its the end that goes on the back of the head but mine is missing the cap on top of what I think is a one way valve. Kind of a hokey setup but I will get it fixed.
Thanks Paul!

Is this ok if it's not hooked up?

There are actually two open ends and is T'd into a breather on the trans, one end is the metal tube behind the trans bolted to the underside and the higher end that goes to the back of the drivers head. It does not have to be attached to the head but does need the plastic breather attached to it. It should secured up as high as possible though, it can be wedged or zip tied into the wire harness on the back of the motor, it would just move it over to the center a couple inches.

What is the purpose of the breathe? I was told by another member it did not need to be hooked up to anything. If important, I will buy another one.

Just something to keep crap out of the trans and let the trans breathe a little.

Is the other member going to help you out when the lack of a $13 item causes your $6000 gearbox to fill up with shit?

Thanks Paul. Ordered online. Local dealership say they would have to order it, and only in 10 packs. No biggie. Hopefully my trans is ok.

Probably be fine.
You wouldn't want to leave it long term because one of the features of the OEM vent will be to minimise condensation inside the gearbox. Hot and cold air have different dew points, so when you park a car with a hot gearbox if cold air can enter the casing...then as the temperature of the new moist air changes, the moisture drops out of the new air.
Rinse & repeat over many drive cycles without the OEM vent & you'd eventually build a rainforest inside your gearbox.

Glad I stumbled into this thread today. On Friday, before I put my car away for the winter, I saw this hanging down, next to the header, about 2" from dragging on the ground. In the second pic you'll see that I zip tied it to the harness below the shift linkage.
I was going to bring it to the dealers attention in the spring.
Now, my question is, does that breather plug into something, or was it just mounted up on top of the trans?

Looks like it should plug into the metal tub picture/circled here?

I thought it hooked to the back of the drivers side head.

Oh, I think you're right. I was thinking the other side of the hose came loose, but with how it was hanging, you're probably right.
Does anything actually flow through that? I wouldn't think so from the head?

Now I'm curious and am going to have to uncover the car this weekend sometime.

Its a vent for the trans. It is secured to the back of the head on the high side. It is T'd into the trans and is open at the bottom too.
