Ok this has become very annoying. At totally random times and usually only for a few seconds at a time (then it goes away) this pops up and warning sounds chime. The fact that my traction control is off is totally unrelated as I manually turn it off all the time as I had before this pic was taken. So disregard that. Car had the airbag warranty recall thing done on it a long time ago. Car has 34k on it and this just randomly started. Any clue what I should do or what it is? Car just went out of warranty by 2 months. :(

lots of passenger side module failures occurring. I believe that mine is out, as the pass airbag light on the mirror is always "off".

Mine happened a few months ago and was part of the airbag recall. Have you had that taken care of?

Yep I have had the airbag recall taken care of. I read about another guy that had this happen and it was the module under the passenger seat. That's what you're talking about Todd?

Is there any way to turn the audio warning chime down or off? That's the most annoying part.

Thank you Tina. I have a new neighbor renting the house next to us and he is a mechanic/tech at Crest Cadillac. I saw him in his driveway this morning as I was leaving for work and stopped and talked to him about this. He's going to bring the scanner home that will read this air bag fault and hopefully we can get to the bottom of it. Cool!

yes, this. My issue may also be related to wiring, as the issue revealed itself when I pulled the radiator.

I haven't done any work to mine lately so don't think it was anything I did. I will check the connections under the seat and see if my neighbor is able to come up with anything too.

There are two airbag sensors on the rad support near the top. You might not have them plugged in all the way or could have damaged the wiring. Check the plugs on those two sensors.

I had this problem and had it fixed; happened after I did my recall. Had to do with the pass side switch and cost me $600 to fix

Holy crap $600?? Wow. My neighbors scanner wouldn't read it but he will be bringing another scanner next weekend that definitely will, and will at least pinpoint the issue so I will know if it's something I can fix on my own or not. Fingers crossed.
Does anyone know if there is a way to turn down the volume or turn it off on the warning chime?

That was $600 Canadian I assumed based on location. Hopefully it will be different.

Damn upon further revue there isn't much difference anymore....

Oh yea didn't think about that. Hopefully it will be much much less.

Richard, actually he might. He seemed to be convinced that if your warranty wasn't flagged that the drivetrain warranty would be in full effect even being cammed. While I know he is wrong, you might have a shot with him. Will talk to you about it more later. At a wedding in MS this weekend.

I got the same air back random light as described in this post. Did the OP find out what the resolution was?? I haven't done any work under the hood. Last time I drove it was fine, then this morning backing out of the garage it came on. My Airbag recall was already done.

Car was purchased in May of '08 and has 32,000 miles. Any chance its still under warranty?

Find a dealer that will fix it under good will! You are still under your mileage so you might get it covered.
Mine ended up being the airbag coil in the steering wheel had gone bad. I found a dealer (the dealer I bought the car from new) that did mine under good will since I was under the mileage. Otherwise it would have been a $900 out of pocket expense!

I thought air bags are under a different warranty like smog systems are.

They should be. But from everything I've learned they fall under the 3yr/36k.

This just started happening on my G8, and I've got 100K on it. What is the risk to me as a driver (or to my passengers)? My car is box stock, other than Plus 1 on the tires.

Thanks!

If the light is on your airbag system might not work, it means there is a fault in the system. Get it fixed asap.

If its the passenger presence system, you can fix it yourself, but the part will cost ya 3 or 4 hundred bucks. Still beats the 800+ that some dealers have been charging

I noticed this same message this past winter for the first time, but it seemed to pop up more often on cold mornings. It might be on for the trip into work in the morning, then not come on for the trip home. I just did get the recall taken care of, and haven't had the light on since.....but then again the light hadn't been on in the couple of weeks before I took it into the dealer. (weather was warmer too).
Anybody know for sure which warranty window this would fall under? I've still got powertrain left, but am obviously well beyond the 3/36.

And with 101K on the odometer, I'm $1,250 poorer today.

Plus, with two G8's in the stable, the other one with less than 50K on it, this one might be trade fodder.

What did they do to fix it ?

Apparently charged me $900 for a new SIR (?) module, and paid one of their mechanics $350 to put inside the steering wheel.

That module goes under the center console and the clockspring goes in the steering column, the airbag is the only thing in the steering wheel.

I've had a similar airbag fault going on for a couple of years now. It never happens when I'm alone in the car, but when I have a passenger in the front seat the warning pops up regularly. I think in my case it has something to do with the passenger side seat bolsters popping up and preventing the airbag sensor in that seat from knowing if someone is in it, or not. When I have a passenger the passenger airbag indicator on the rearview mirror will toggle back and forth between on and off.

My (non factory) mechanic told me it would probably be about a $1200 fix so I'm just trying to ignore it.

That module goes under the center console and the clockspring goes in the steering column, the airbag is the only thing in the steering wheel.

Only steering wheels I've ever fooled with were the one's with an adapter that allowed you to take them off the steering column so the driver could enter and exit through the window of the car. And our race cars didn't have consoles or air bags, so I may have mispoken.

All I know is that the alert kept coming up on the center dashboard display, and I could clear the alarm, but the warning light on the left side of the dash would stay illuminated, but that at 5 o'clock this afternoon when I pick up my car from the dealer, I will be $1,250 poorer and the alert won't come on.

While I used to build them from scratch, I'm almost afraid to open the hoods of cars any more, so I just write a check and walk away with my keys.

Hello evilstevie,

If you provide me with your VIN and accurate current vehicle mileage, I can locate your warranty status for you. That will surely help you out. You can private message me that information.
