When did you guys do your first oil change, (mileage) and did you follow the break-in instructions of the owner's manual or do something different? The manual suggests you keep it under 68 mph for up to 3000 miles and can go faster but not more than five minutes at a time.

This is a loaded question. You will get 100 different answers to this question. Some guys change oil at 100 miles. Some at 500 or 1000. While some will follow the owners manual. Bottom line there is no right answer, but I think many will say that an earlier oil change is "Cheap Insurance".

What is a break in? LOL

I did my first oil change at 2500 with RP

Just drive it like how you want to, i never followed break in instructions with any of my cars and have had no problems and 2 of them have 150k + miles on them.

First oil change at 1000 to full synthetic. Next at 3000. Drove the car "Fairly" conservativly for that 3000.

I just changed my oil tonight for the first time and I am at 6250 miles (Went with Castrol Syntec). I was going to wait until 11,000 like my Onstar diagnostics said but I figured that it was time.

Just had mine dealer chainged yesterday @2800mi and used mobil1.My first service was free.Thats the only time I have ever had a dealer change my oil.I checked and they did fill it up.As far as the break in.I drove it like I stole it.It's bumped the govenor more than once.I lined it up with my 96 impala ss with my son driving the impala the first week. The impala wasnt even in the race the first mile.I was running 138 when the impala flew by.

I think a lot of people assume the "break in period" is for the engine only but you need to remember they take in to account a lot (well ok not A LOT but a considerable amount) more when they write that in the manual... ie.. bedding in brakes, settling suspension. That being said I drove reasonably conservative the first 1000 miles, did an oil change with my favorite dino, and am planning on going to syn at 5k. Call it overkill but i've seen crazy people do a lot more, ha

Broke it in like I drive....was at 130mph and bouncing off rev limiter at 7 miles....oh yea...changed oil at 2900 miles..to castro syntec.
If you need to 'break it in' for 3000 miles......why do the performance people....like Enjucko(spelling),AMS,Main Street and all the others....build a Monster engine/turbo,etc. Then throw in some oil,put it on a dyno and tune for the highest hp?? Yea..some break..but most don't.

First oil change for me was done at 130 miles. Just happened to be the same time I was putting on all the A/M parts and I had it on the hoist. My thoughts on my car where that it probably had the oil in the engine for approx. 4 months before I took delivery of it so I wanted to get he motor broken in a bit and then change it. I then changed it again at 1000 miles and now again at about 3800 miles. My next oil change will be at 6800 miles with Royal Purple.

I know changing that many times seems like over kill and it probably is but my car also lives in a very cold climate where it get's remotely started and run a lot to warm up. You have to take those idle times into consideration too.

I'll probably change mine at 500 miles and then again at 1500 miles and then start the Royal Purple at 3000.

I have been told that break-in is more for the rear end than the engine on these cars. I changed to Mobil One at 500 miles and followed the break-in procedures till 1000. After that, you should be good.

Opps had the cruise set @ 75 today for a 2 hr ride(730 miles in 8 days thank god it's a 3rd car) I was planning on changing the oil @ 1k with conventional oil
then switch yo synthetic @ 4k.

Did mine @334 miles plus did a oil analysis, VERY high silicon content, I have done about 5 oil samples on new GM vehicles between 334-980 miles and all have came back with the same reading, extremely high silicon in oil, get oil changed asap if not done so from the folks that did the oil analysis, 6250 before 1st oil change is nuts in my opinion, just bought the wife a new Vibe
and will be doing the same to her car as well, silicon is dirt, sand, plus oil, not good, but a great grinding compound!
just my 2 cents.

I did two conventional oil changes at 2500 miles, now I went to full synthetic changing at every 3000 with wix filter.

My "break in" was taking it to the track with 600 miles on her and running a 13.50. Switched to synthetic at 4500.
