This is going to be my first mod (Vararam), do you need a tune for it to work long term. because I've been told that the computer reverts back to stock?

Once a computer has been tuned or flashed it will never lose the tune.

The programing wont change only things such as fuel trims and any learned data the computer has stored in it will be gone, but its quickly relarned.

No the ECM won't lose the tune, unless it is flashed back to stock, which is what dealerships have a tendency to do. As for necessity, no its not technically required, but is HIGHLY recommended.
